GRP FRONT WINGS

Morning all.

After a good weekend of welding and grinding I've come to the conclusion that the nearside wing on my Turbo is beyond repair. Looks like it's had a previous bad repair as all of the bottom is completely distorted. Had to grind out a good amount of filler which then revealed a crudely tacked in patch covering a massive hole. There's even surface rust appearing underneath the underseal.

So I have one good offside wing which literally needed 1 small patch welding in to where the lower bracket fell off. But good second hand steel wings are hard to find.

Has anyone had any experience with the GRP panels from Teilecar? Are the fit and panel gaps good or do they need a lot of fettling and glass adding in to make them good? A search on here turns up one mention saying they're pretty good but that's all. GRP would pretty much future proof the whole front end. But obviously takes away the originality of having steel ones.

Or do I bite the bullet and buy a new OEM item from Porsche?

Thanks in advance.

Marek's wings are far better than your usual GRP fare; but theyll still need more spending in bodyshop labour than a new wing would cost from Porssche: and even then they wont be perfect (nor durable).

I have the Teilecar front wings on my Turbo.

There's an old thread here about mine (and a more detailed one on the TIPEC forum over here).

I had them done at a local bodyshop and I'm very glad that I did. Getting a good fit involved cutting the internal supports and reshaping before building the supports back up. Getting a convincingly smooth finish for the paint took eight rounds of priming, shaping and sanding. Not a job for the faint-hearted, but less trouble than reshaping non-Turbo/S2 shape wings to fit (none of the UK companies sell Turbo/S2 shaped fibreglass wings, only standard shape which need cutting and altering at the front end).

Pop. Your car looks awesome. I was scouring Ebay for a decent wing when the Teilecar ones popped up making me think "Those look familiar"

So GRP may not be as cost effective as I thought if that amount of modification is needed for a convincing fit.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for another decent second hand one whilst I'm cleaning up the rest of the car for paint. The inner scuttle on the offside is pretty grotty with surface rust.

Thanks for the advice [;)]
