Grumbling Noise is causing a head ache!

I have a really irratating noise which appears to be coming from my rear nearside wheel. I made the assumption that it was wheel bearing noise (having covered 120k) so she went in for it to be repaced, got it done guess what, still there, so the garage explained that the Torque Tube transmits noise and therefore I got the front nearside replaced, guess what still there! It is driving me nuts and it is worse when turnning right, it quietens down when turning left.

Due to my specialist garage really irratating with several issues (Not just the bearing issue) I bought the front two bearings and rear bearing for the Ofside However it is a job too involved for me, as no matter how hard I have tried I can't get the Hub bolt off the rear or the callerper bolts off the front, and I do not have any impact driver.

Can anyone help, with the problem explained above and that noise appears to be coming from the near side is replacing the ofside Bearings actually going to help, or am I way off and looking at some other problem. Any help woul;d be so gratefully recieved!

Kind Regards
Chris (A frustrated Lux owner!)

Oh I Had not thought of that! So what could have caused the joint to make noise, the gaiter had not split, and therefore has always remained well greased! Right I will have to get a quote on one.

Tyres are a good shout. When I bought my current Turbo it sounded for all the world like it needed a wheel bearing but when I swapped the wheels between it and the S2 I was selling the noise went with them.

Hi Chris,
as far as i remember when one of my CV joints needed replacing on my last 951 it was making a regular clunk, clunk..and i think it was worse when conering on the offending side. It sounded as it if was coming from one of the rear wheels...at all familiar?

Grinding noise from my passenger rear was the hand brake mechanism eating itself within the drum.

I am running Michelin Pilots on the back, they have been on the car for about 3 months, and the noise has been getting louder in recent months, However as mentioned the noise is a wierd one as it is not a clunking noise that you would associate with a CV noise, it is always there, but gets louder the faster you go and if you go round a bend, below 30 on full lock you can't here anything at all. So I really thought it was the bearings, but as mentioned they have been replaced still there! I will swap the tyres around and see if that makes any difference!

However one thing is for certain is thatit sounds like a damn expensive noise! And I have just had my gearbox rebuild which cost a mega amount! "Love my car, but always skint should be my signiture!"

Fen,

those wouldnt have been Avons that were noisy were they?, That was the cause of my grief.. happily on Pilot Cups and Falkens now![;)]

Avon ZZ1's as i recall. Avon for sure. Wouldn't touch them bceause of it - so that's Avons and P6000's on my blacklist [;)]

Gearbox pinion bearing. Just had mine diagnosed as such. I was convinced it was a bearing.
