GT2 practical?

A question directed to you GT2 drivers..... I have been toying with the idea of changing from a 993C4 which I use as my every day car. I don't do track days (therfore not considering a GT3), but quite fancy the idea of owning a rare [and currently reasonably affordable] GT series Porsche.

However, I have young twins and do the morning nursery run. Despite having no rear seats, can child seat be used in the back of a GT2 if rear seat belts are fitted (of course I know such belts are not original equipment)? Or would that be a no go in a vehicle designated as having no 'rear seats'? Secondly, can such a car realistically be used as a daily driver - I actually do very low home to office mileage during the week, but like to use my 993 with any excuse at weekends.

I know a local guy who had an 03 GT2 and he had rear sets retrofitted into it to allow him to take the children out. i believ all the fixings are there for the seatbelts, but he bought a second hand set of rear seats and carpets, so that he could retrun the car to standard when he sold it, which he has recently.

With regard to being a daily driver, I would think a turbo would be a better option with the 4wd, the GT2 is a lovely car but a bit of a handful in the wet.
 
Just for info re childseats...

I have the Porsche seat in my 996 and although it has the rear seats intact it's useless in the back (IMO). I only do nursery runs too and even with the passenger seat forward my lad (age 2) thought it was a great idea to boot the seats and mark them even with his short legs. Needless to say he won't be doing that again.

It now goes on the front seat and gets taken out at weekends. Only downside to this is the 996 needs the airbag deactivation kit fitting (approx £250 parts and labour) which I had done - one thing in my favour was OPC forgot to add this to the final bill when I collected the car - result!
 
You might want to check with your insurance company.
I doubt the GT2 was homologated/tested with rear seats, so you might have problems should an accident occur.
Insurance companies can be a bit awkward sometimes (another understatement there!)
 
In my opinion the GT2 is as practical as the turbo apart from grounding out a little easier on speed bumps, ramps etc. The stuff about it being a handful in the wet is true but with a bit of common sense it's no more dangerous than the turbo in every day use.

I've covered nearly 20,000 miles in mine in 2 years and only a few times have I not been able to get into car parks etc.


They're very special cars. I took mine to the Nurburgring last weekend and people still gather around it, take pictures and come over to talk about it. Buy one now whilst the prices are low, I sold mine back in November and bought it back 8 weeks later, an expensive mistake but there's nothing else out there like a 996 GT2 [8D]
