Gt2 steering rack

Does anybody know if the 993 cup cars ,rsr or any version of the gt2 road or race had a different steering rack ratio(from the std road car one) for lhd versions or did they all use the 964 rack? a cup car parts manual would be useful in this quest for info?

Cup car most extreme, no bump steer , very big turning circle !
I think rs /rscs and GT2 s the same .................not same as 993 road car coud be used as taxis !

I am sorry had CC and rs renewed, never had any probs racks gt2 s so never looked that close !

Had pump go in engine comp for gt2 and a pressure pipe burst all over Silverstone GP !

Even GT2 CS had hydraulic power steering ...............most racers change d to electric with on /off switch

As for parts book good luck ..............Weissach have almost lost the plot on all these cars !
 
They used a 964 cup rack,i have one in my 993rsr.Worst part of the 993gt2 and rs is the power steering,the cup rack produces so much feel into the car.Are you feeling me!
Some gt2 had electric power steering,and some even hyd power steering.
This was mainly because of the so large front wheels on slicks,you need arms like garth.
 
Thanks gents!, Are you of the opinion that the racers had a faster rack for quicker response,or just a varying of the assistance produced in terms of feel? I know that the road rs uses the steering rack of a 964 in lhd form and this is a slower rack than the regular 993 item.I presume this was done in an effort to reduce the quickness of the steering when they were fine tuning the model in pre production testing and was wondering if the same applies to other cooking models.such as the gt2 and so on?
If anyone knows the ratio of any of the alternative racks i would be most grateful?

Am learning everyday. Had no idea that the 993 range had so many differences in steering racks.

 
Yes the 964cup rack is quicker,hence heavier.Its a good move to fit one along with the gt2 steering joints etc,you can feel every ridge and curb through the steering wheel.
Vic i have canoeists arms which are fairly strong,its the duration that is the problem.I remember falling to my knees after getting out of the gt2 racer on brands indy after a hour race,temp was 31 deg outside and nearer 50 inside,no power steering and large front slicks,the only time i wished for power steering.
Talking of canoeists arms,keep a eye out for me on country file this sunday, looking after Ellie all day a couple of weeks ago.
The latest gt3 rs steering is crap,feels like you have 4 pairs of gloves on,and no feel.
I do have the gt2 road and race parts book,can look at numbers when i get time,if you are wanting for a 964 or 993 fit the 964 cup rack.
 
Heaviest Porsche rack i ve suffered , without that much feeling, belonged to a 930 flat nose , apparently roll bars and drop links wind up .........................as long as ur moving great ..............

Sounds nasty... Reminds me of an 4 hour endurance karting race that I did. My co-driver had a bad stomach bug and I drove for 3.5 hours one a twisty track. Next day I could not lift my arms, literally.

Paul you wouldn't want a cup rack on a road car would you? Too heavy and too sensitive ?

Here we disagree, i just have fat arms ....and legs etc , i find the rack hideous in town..............of course brilliant on track
 
TBH i should have bought a trailer when i bought the Cup Car i ve got an old Cayenne for the snow anyway,but i insist on driving to and from track days.............i ll probaly go deaf or bits will vibrate off my body before my arms grow !

To be fair once ur on track its so good u forget the journey......except when its cold!

I ll take something else for picnics in future...........

Paul, I must be soft. PaulW. and I were knackered after 25 minute races in the 968CS Porsche Club Championship --- and in the three layer race suits and nomex t shirts, balaclavas, socks, helmet and boots, it was unbelievable.

At Silverstone we blew the engine in qualifying, missed the Friday race, changed the engine overnight on the Friday and both raced on the Saturday. The cylinder head gasket on the "new" engine was going (it was in for rebuild), so we had to limp the car round for points and with the heater full on.

I think there was more water in my suit then in the engine at the end, but we finshed :)

you must be soft chris[;)],all our races are 1 hour,you do need to be fit for sure.Brands indy probably the hardest because you are busy all the time unlike the girls circuit silverstone[:D]
