GT2 Valve Timing

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, so this may not be the correct section for this post. Perhaps should go in mechanical section.

I'm a student taking Motorsport Engineering at Brooklands and I've got a project where I had to choose an engine to research and write about. I chose the 997 GT2 as it's my favourite, only problem is for 5 marks of this assignment, I need to draw a valve timing diagram.
Does anybody know the degrees for the timing on this engine? Or know of anywhere that I could get hold of the values?

Thanks for any and all input
Ben aka Slider

Sadly I don't have the information but a place like Rennteam may well have it available. That or a friendly dealer may assist in th detail. Great engine to research [:)] garyw

Fearnsport, based at Silverstone, are acknowledged experts on GT2s. It may be worth giving them a call. Good luck with the project. Terry

Hi Ben, An interesting engine to study. Unfortunately, I don't have the figures for the 997 GT2 but Paul Frere, in his excellent book "Porsche 911 Story", gives the timing for the M96/70 engine used in the 996 Turbo (the GT2 uses the same engine but with slightly larger turbos). These engines have both variable inlet valve timing and lift (Variocam Plus) as follows: In the high lift mode at 1mm valve lift and zero lash - "Early" diagram: Intake opens 15deg before TDC; closes 15deg after BDC "Late" diagram: Intake opens 15deg after TDC; closes 45deg after BDC Exhaust opens 41deg before BDC, closes 9deg before TDC In the low lift mode - "Early" diagram: Intake opens 2deg after TDC; closes 62deg before BDC "Late" diagram: Intake opens 32deg after TDC; closes 32deg before BDC Exhaust opens 41deg before BDC, closes 9deg before TDC Incidentally, the Paul Frere book (in its revised and expanded 8th edition) contains a lot of technical information on the engine which you'll find very useful. Hope that's of some use as a starting point and good luck with the assignment. Jeff

Ben, Jeff, very interesting Q & A. I have tried to obtain the valve timings of the 996TT engine to enable a comparison with a 944T engine of mid-80's vintage. Without success. The reason for this was / is a curiosity regarding the timings Porsche used given their discriminatory engineering approach to the 944T which was too good for the 911 of the day, and the model range hierarchy which existed. I can now refresh my investigation as the single cam non variable 944 is easy to get values for. Thanks and good luck with the project Ben. George 944T

997.1TT data, remembering that it's VarioCam:

Good day. When I have difficulties with such tasks, I order their fulfilling in this service [link=https://www.customwritings.com/essay-help.html]https://www.customwritings.com/essay-help.html[/link]. I always get a competently done job and have never regretted that I decided to look for a professional who can qualitatively help with essays. Guys, I can't even imagine how you all teach this. Machines are such units, there are so many things inside that it is very difficult to remember how it all works.

Let's just hope that, in the intervening 9 years, Ben managed to find the answer to his question! [;)]
