GT3 Rear Spoiler

I'm thinking of purchasing a low mileage 996 which is fitted with a GT3 style rear spoiler. How easy is it to remove the spoiler and restore the car back to standard?

I think its just a case of replacing the engine cover though there will be some electrics to hook up with the standard item. Question remains ....... why? There are so many cars out there that downgrading doesnt appear to make much sense, especially if it was factory fitted. What are you going to say when the insurance ask if it has been modified?

Also bear in mind if its part of the full aero kit the spoiler is a working part of the aerodynamics including front PU and I'm sure I read somewhere Porsche wont sell one without the other as the car can become unstable at speed if one exists without the other.

I think it depends which aerokit you have as to whether it has, or needs, a front splitter. It's probably OK to remove the rear wing and not the splitter, but not the other way round.

The connector for the electric spoiler is located at the right hand side of the engine compartment. It should be a simple matter of removing the loop-wire plug used with the aerokit, and plugging in the standard connector for the motorised spoiler.

If you are planning to change the spoiler I have a genuine rear boot lid complete with spoiler & motor. The only item you will need to purchase is the fan and 3rd brake light for spoiler. If the one you are thinking about has a GT3 spoiler then it will have had a modified loom, I have the right loom for this also. when you change it back over I think you have to have the spoiler re-activated?

If you are interested or want to discuss pm me.

I'm pretty sure that the spoiler and front have to be fitted as a pair, and presume that they would have to come off together as well.
