GT3 wheels fitted at last

Well I've nearly finished all the mods to the outside of my car, all are completely reversable, so that's no worry to the sheep herders..
Lowered H&R springs on Bilstein dampers, Drilled disks on yellow calipers (overhauled of course) C4 rear calipers at the rear to replace those horrid 2 piston types..Colour coded door handles and seals....and finally on side view these GT3 wheels to set it all off.

Lastly because I don't have a picture of the front ducts yet, a picture of the lovely yellow fan, why?????????? Because I wanted to.

Hi Jeff, yes I did the calipers myself, parts from all over the shop, only the dust shields needed any replacements tho' the pistons looked ok, so I didn't replace them.
The caliper plates were cleaned and I replaced most of the bolts with stainless steel button heads, even though there could be electrolytic action, I figure it should be ok the amount of time I use the car in the winter....
I used Foliatech paint for the calipers, its weird to use, too liquid for the first five minutes, too difficult to move after 20.......vinyl stickers from EBay.

Glad you like the fan, thats plain old Hammerite Smooth, sprayed on...

How did the caliper painting turn out?? do you have a picture. I was going to do mine. Certian companies will do them compleate but at 150 per pair i think its a bit expensive. Did you laquer over the top of the sticker?looks nice by the way. Did you change struts as well as springs when you lowered yours? What was the cost if you dont mind me asking

Any advise appricated

Tim

Kevin,

What size and offsets are the wheels? Do they need spacers? They look really good!

Morning Tim,

Caliper painting was...not as easy as I'd hoped as it's all brush work, but you can scotch brite it down for a smoother finish and then polish it up, my finish on marks out of 10 would be an 8-9....I'm waiting to see how the whole paint jobe perfoms before I make my mind up over lacquering over the sticker, I really want to see how high temp they are before comitting myself. I'd hate to lacquer it all only to have the sticker bubble up underneath and ruin it all.
New dampers and springs, H&R springs, Bilstein sport dampers, I paid about £740 for them, and fitted them myself, not an easy task when all you have in the garage is a set of axle stands, its difficult to release the rear lower bolts, I needed a 4 ft breaker bar to release them, they are normally very tight. I did enquire about fitting from various places, they all want £300+ I thought that would be better spent elsewhere...There is a small write up on my website, with one caveat I need to change one picture about the rear measuring point, I included the wrong one...

Tat, wheels are 7/12 and 9 with offsets of 52 and 50, no spacers fitted yet, I'm seeing how they run first, the rear is quite close, so I'll be using chalk to mark everywhere and see if I hit anything, the outside wheel arch looks tight......I might just get some more negative camber dialled in to help, spacers would at the rear make this worse, though the front I might need 3-5mm to avoid the inside wing where there is a slight rub.

Kevin

Well,

I had some negative camber dialled in and she now sits at RS specs, and I as I'd feared I have hit the oil return tube. The pipe has now been moved on the rubber sleeve and is clear, I'm hoping that this is enough, flattening the pipe proved insufficient. time will tell if it's been moved enough, otherwise no clearance issues.

Hi
Car looks stunning, was the door handles ever colour coded on the 964?
How have you gone about ensuring that the wheels fit.
I want to change my 16 cups for 17inch, Cup3's or turbo/996 without making any changes. My car is a 1993 so should have increased size steering lock stops.
Do you have any suggestions?
Keith

Kevin.

How do you find the lowered H&R springs and Bilstein dampers combo? Any reason you decided on H&R springs instead of Eibach?

I am thinking of the same setup so wondered how it drives now you have done it.

Also did you change any of the anti-roll bars?

Ian.

Keith, as long as your fitting 55 offset wheels you shoudl be able ok if you use 5mm spacer on the front. Rears should be fine.

The stainless steel fasteners are a bit of a nono for calipers. These should really be in high tensile steel. Elsewhere coating them with copperslip will aid later dissassembly.
