From total911.com, great looking car. Let's hope it is real and soon.

Who knows, Ralph? Pity they didn't publish any "sound bites" - we might have been able to tell if it was running the flat-4 or the standard flat-6. Different front and rear PUs and a fixed spoiler - maybe they're just checking out the parts for a Cayman Tequipment package. Furthermore, is it actually a Porsche development car (they're not Stuttgart plates on the car; LB is Ludwigsburg)? Who's to say that it's not one of the after-market suppliers checking out some parts? Jeff

Jeff, Indeed who knows but we can only hope. The video here http://www.imotortimes.com/porsche-cayman-gt4-spied-see-hardcore-cayman-testing-near-nurburgring-here-video-31026 has the noise of the 'camera' car, not the alleged GT4. The pictured car also has larger floating disks and could of course be an aftermarket test or even a home brew, but the overall look (wing aside) looks OEM. My German is very limited but this may add further light or confusion http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/erlkoenig-porsche-cayman-gt4-sportliches-top-modell-im-anmarsch-8362301.html A PH'er observed: QUOTE: Not conclusive evidence, but it is wearing an LB region licence plate, as do many Porsche prototypes testing at the Ring, LB being Ludwigsburg which is next door to Zuffenhausen. Also, from where the video starts, it takes a long and indirect route past the Porsche test centre (the grey penultimate building on the right at the end of the video). It's possible the driver was either on a predetermined test route, or had intended to return to base but clocked that he was being tailed by a photographer and decided to try to lose him. Or it was just someone who lives near the Porsche factory who just happened to be at the Ring in a non-standard 981 Cayman. END QUOTE Ralph

Was invited today to put in a letter of intent on a GT4. I have never called this car GT4, but the model name has come to me over a period of 18 months from two OPC's and now a raft of Press. Maybe they need something to deal with the new Jag F type Coupe .... This should do it [:)] So long as it weighs less than 1300 Kg's with a 400BHP torquey 3.8 and a repeat of the R chassis [:)]

An invitation from whom Chris? If a PC then it's tantamount to Porsche acknowledging that there will be a Cayman GT4 rather than an R. Announcement of the car in autumn 2105 (MY2016) perhaps, so most likely using a detuned 3.8L flat-6 from the 991S (380hp max?) rather than the turbo flat-4; but you never know. Jeff

So, is this a road car required for homologation in the burgeoning GT4 Class, or is this the actual race car that customers can buy? It would be great to see it rivalling the Astons, Ginettas, BMWs, etc - and an accessible option.

Agreed Oliver. The Cayman is already homolgated for GT4 I believe, so an official race car from Porsche would be a bonus, as would some factory support - although I think that doubtful given commitments elsewhere (919 and 911 RSR). It could be that Porsche are dipping their toe into a burgeoning series at minimal expense to see how things go and to improve exposure of the Cayman. With the profitability of the company depending increasingly upon the SUVs, it's about time Porsche redressed the balance a little, capitalising on the racing heritage and letting it spill over into the other sportscar in their range. Jeff

Sorry for the late reply, yes, OPC ... Chris
