GT4 Track Day Noise Levels

I would like to do a Donnington track day next week with Lotus on Track (my Son has a Lotus) in my GT4.
It is a restricted 98dbl drive by noise level day does anyone know what my chances are of not getting thrown off.
I know I cannot meet 98dbl on static but not sure what it will read on drive by ?
I guess you can come off the power, high gear etc but that rather defeats the object and I expect the circuit will know what readings to expect from a GT4.

Thanks guys

Depends on the circuit and crucially where they have placed the drive-by mics.

Having said that 98dBA drive-by is pretty high. I do a lot of days at Brands Hatch where the static is 105dBA and the drive-by is 92dBA. My Cayman is rather loud (99 static with a Carnewal GT exhaust) and it's fine - I've been told on a couple of days that I'm 1dB off the drive-by :)

I've seen plenty of unmodified GT4s on track there and they're definitely quieter than mine.

Geoff,

There were a bunch of GT4s (inc MrD) that went on a non-noisy track day there last year and none reported noise issues as I recall. I think the event was around June and there was an excitable thread on PH Porsche section about the day.

GT4s seem to generate induction noise which has caused drive by problems at Goodwood so they are too noisy there on 98db days and Brands Club days we discourage GT4s because of noise.

My car is 101db static and still tripped Goodwood 101db drive by limit so static and drive by relationship not always as you might think it is.

Hope it goes well for you.

Thanks Ralph

Having read through the thread it seems it is a bit of pot luck but if you keep to the right past the gantry on the pit straight then you have a good chance of being okay.

Does anyone know if that's the only place they measure ?

Geoff

I had no issues, the issues come from 3 or 4 cars passing the straight at the same time , or you go too near the pit wall, that can happen as you over take cars on the left.

It (assuming it is Oct 2) is a joint with MGs on Track so one 20 minute session per hour. 28 places for LoT sessions.

I went on one such event at Silberstone GP in March and didn't find the sessions arrangement too bad although there is batching unless one waits a couple of minutes to get some track space.

My GT4, and others, were fine at Donington summer '16, same limits as listed. Enjoy. For the record mine is 104 dB static.

Yes that is right its the 2nd Oct with MG and Lotus as you say gets 20mins per hour which will be more than enough for me, I want a fun day out with my car I'm not interested in lap times and pushing to the limit, I cannot afford to replace the car if I get it badly wrong.

David - Yes I will book tomorrow with my Son who has an Elise, its our region monthly meeting on Monday night which is just down the road from Donnington so I will probably go to that after.

Ian - My static was 102db

Thanks all

Geoff

I am a LOT life time member so can book a space, I do fancy a trip out on track again and the weather looks perfect atm

I considered doing this one until I found out it was sessions. The problem with a 20 minute session is that some people try too hard to get as much out of it as they can. This results in them binning it in the gravel and you lose the rest of the session. And even if everyone stays on the black stuff, you get trains of cars round the circuit. Not good value for money in my experience.

Ditto ... if you are concerned keep to the right of the gantry on the pit straight.

I started doing this and after a while it didn't seem to matter.

My car is the same spec as Ian's ...
