GTS 4.0

Hello All,

After a year of driving "Red Lightening" (son picks the names, honest!) a 718 Style Edition, and after having a loaner of a Grey GTS 4.0, I am feeling the urge to place an order for a GTS. Chatted with the OPC etc.... so it's decision time... do I or don't I.

Some of my thinking is to do it whilst I can, before "any" change to the electric Cayman whenever that actually may be.

I would welcome any thoughts, especially those that made or considering the same swap. The colour picked is Aventurine Green :)

Well if you want a new one, there's approximately 12 months until builds stop. The electric replacement for the 718 is due in 2025, most likely after the summer shutdown when the factory is reconfigured for model year changes. With around 3-6 months lead time from official order acceptance to build you've got around 6 months to make your mind up!

I'd say if you want a new one it would be better to chase down an allocation sooner rather than later.

What Dave has said is true and good advice, but my understanding is that the 718-series cars [Boxster and Cayman] will continue to be manufactured in parallel with the electric replacement for a while, although in somewhat limited numbers dependent upon capacity, so thereā€™s no guarantee that youā€™ll get a car.

Mind you, judging by the delayed roll-out of the Macan EV thereā€™s no guarantee that Porsche will be able to stick to the projected release date for the 718ā€™s replacement.

I agree with Dave. Put your order in now however it doesnā€™t mean youā€™ve got a build slot. Fingers crossed you get one sooner rather than later. I read this morning that some journalists are predicting the values of the ICE Caysters will either remain steady or rise slightly once production stops.

Thanks all for the replies, I think tbh I am edging towards getting an order in.

OPC have confirmed deposit is refundable up until the build is locked.

I am in no rush but thinking I may miss the GTS boat if I donā€™t get it in soon like you both say.
 
Personally, if I were in yours shoes I'd 100% be looking at low milage 981 GTS's on auto trader. I'd definitely recommend test driving both the 981 and the 718 before you decide - there is a dramatic difference in how the car sounds and I'm sure many would agree the 981's have one of the best exhaust notes money can buy.

If there's one car I'd consider having over my GT4 that would be it, a 981 Boxster GTS. Well, that and a 918 Spyder but my pockets aren't that deep šŸ˜œ.
 
I was told last month that getting an allocation for a GTS 4.0 was extremely unlikely, so I found and purchased a lightly use one.
 
Agree with most comments above. Failing that, there were a few pre-reg ones around which are perhaps not Aventurine Green, but will no doubt put a smile on your face nevertheless.

I am fortunate to have a 718 Cayman S and a Boxster 4.0 GTS. Both powerplants are awesome in their own way and you will not regret it.

Thanks, I am going for it I think and defo a plan B is the pre-reg!

As Trebor also says a lots depends if they can get an allocation. Appreciated all the feedback.
 
Morning All, well decision made and deposit down for a Vanadium Grey GTS šŸ˜€ So thanks for all of the advice!

On my build I was considering LCA, does it make a difference at say junctions or is it purely for motorway and dual carriage ways? May change this and put the money towards PPF (extended not full car).
