hi all,
i have a 997 C4S, a few months old, fantastic fun. fits the daughter in her car seat in the back with luggage anbd wife in the front. who says it's not a family car.

got our second child on the way, due ina few weeks, and it is no longer a family car, if we are to travel together with a push chair!

so, i'm thinking of getting Cayenne S, second hand, maybe on the 04/05 plate. can you give me some guidance on the must have options in yor experience as owners please?

Thanks, Dev.

IMO .. PCM and Sat Nav, Park Assist, Bi-Xenon (you never get bored of watching them light round corners when you turn), Auto Air Conditioning, BOSE (some hate it .. I like it), Heated Seats

Other options which are very usefull : Light Comfort pack (auto lights, home illumination, wing mirror lights to illuminate the door area when opening the car), Cruise control if you do a lot of motor way miles... I like the Air Suspension too

S has Tip tronic as Standard

Must haves are

Tipronic S is an absolute must...which IIRC is standard on "S"

Black or Titanium even Silver is very hard to sell on

19" wheels as a minimum

PCM Sat Nav (If you get the phone module, best get the MF S Wheel too

Park Assist..Its a huge beast

Auto Air Con

PASM if you can afford it but ride isnt harsh

Bi Xenon..nice but not essential

Try for an 05 model Year as the front and rear valances are colour coded and sets the car off well

An account at the local petrol station might prove handy too

Agree with all the above, just make sure it hasn't got Continental sport contact 4x4 as in the wet it makes a mockery of the Cayenne being a 4x4.

most mentioned item by passengers, full leather interior and the bi xenon lights looking around corners oh and how quickly the S gets to 140mph any more takes a bit of time.

Lapis Blue 05 Cayenne S Tip, over last 2000 miles giving 21mpg and I don't hang around.

When I first ordered my V6 I went Sport seats in partial leather .. and when it came to final spec order I uped it and went full leather .. dont regret it as think it looks great.. For a second hand car if I had the choice of two exactly the same spec close on price and one had full leather I'd do that one .. However I would not dismiss a possible car choice because it was only partial leather

I think all the models and trim combinations are pretty good as the basic specs are well loaded. There isn't really a bad car out there, it is a fantastic bit of engineering!

The S is probably a bit smoother and second-hand the prices of the V6 and V8 are quite similar (turbo excepted).

If you are looking at a used car, then I am sure you will find something you like.

Price guide: 03-04 plate: V6 £28-32k, V8 £30-35k. 54-55 plate: V6 £35-40k, V8 £37-45k

Hope this helps.

Come see me at Eynsham (assuming you are going) if you want to chat about it.

thank you everyone. your detailed comments are a big help. i am very keen on an S model and likely to look for an 04 minimum, but possibly an 05 based on some of your feedback. full leather, bi-xenons, tiptronic, minimum 19" wheels (but not Conti tyres), m/f sports wheel

if possible, i htink i will try and go for sports seats, sport design pack, aluminium pack, s/s skid plates, privacy glass, and PASM. see what options are around. someone out there must be selling a "fully" loaded car!!!

oh yeah, and shares in BP Optimax too :0)

What about a VW Touareg V10 tdi? O

[/cat amongst the pigeons mode]

I ask as I went in one the other day - absolutely bonkers and every toy on the list, all for under £45k and only a few months old.

Agreed[:D]
As well as to say the Cayenne S is better looking, faster, handles better - and oh yes, is not a substitute for a better car...

Wife has a Diesel Touareg- well built loads of toys 32mpg . Thought I'd try a V10 before getting Cayenne S. But...
V10 is a massive lump and you feel every kilo as you turn in, plus its not a Porsche although wife likes to point out to everyone that Cayenne has loads of VW stickers hidden under seats and behind dash and her Treg has as many Porsche stickers behind trim plus her steering wheel is the same as a Bentley GT.
One final thing the Cayenne and the Touareg shares is the ability to write off front tyres by shaving off the shoulder tread within next to nothing mileage.
