Gundo Hack or Complete Bypass pipes

Hi All,

A couple of queries

Item 1
Am thinking of getting the Gundo Hack carried out on my Targa.
I know that the 2 pipes are joined together by welding a small tube between the two pipes.
I have seen pics on some websites where the unused (3rd Port) is also opened up and an additional piece of pipe is welded to this and also joined to the other two - can anyone tell me what this achieves.
1, Does it increase the exhaust note sound/volume/loudness.
2, Does this help push more exhaust gases out and bypassing the internal baffles/silencers etc ?
3, Does this have any benefit at all ?

Should I not bother with the Gundo Hack and just go for the bypass pipes that I can buy direct from Porsche at just over £150.00

If you take the silencers off your car then start it up that will answer your question whether or not to use Bypass pipes.

I prefer gundo than many after-market systems that Ive heard.
 
Having only seen and read some basic forum threads, I have yet to see any technical data to back claims - but will keep searching.
1. Yes, by all accounts and annoy the neighbours.
2. Dubious - need some rolling road data at various rpm to check performance, economy, emissions. May even be negative values over standard.
3. Noise

Looking at some of the images online, the welds look poor. This could introduce fractures in the system leading to more long-term problems and costs. At the end of the day Porsche design exhausts for maximum performance factoring noise, economy and emissions, as well as reliability and cost - they know what they are doing :)

Quality after-market or OEM upgrades would be my preference with technical data (if you're after performance and retaining resale value). After all this only a hack and I would frankly walk away from buying such a car.

I couldn't disagree more I'd walk away from most with aftermarket systems.
Your right what you say about the exhaust system being quite a good one, but at the end of the day it's a "silencer" and it has been built with street legal road use in mind.
Yes there are a lot of awful looking Mig welded hacks that have been done (some with ridiculously skinny pipe too)
Mine are mig welded and are pretty neat.
I didn't do the gundo hack either, I copied Porsche's PSE because this creates a more free flow (if you look at a cross section of the system you'll see why).
This is not as loud as the gundo but loud from experience can become very annoying.

And if you want loud do both.

Hi guys can anyone advise on sizes for gundo hack for loudness Iam guessing larger the pipe used more sound (louder exhaust note) has anyone performed both i.e the PSE additional bend pipe and Gundo ???
