Gunge in Oil Cap

I checked my oil level this morning and found an amount of Yellow Gunge in the oil cap and filler neck. The oil in the sump is clean, according to the dip stick. Is this just condensation? Car is garaged every night but it has been below 0 degrees outside over the last few nights. I have owned the car for 14 months and have not noticed this before. Car does lots of short journeys and only around 15 to 20 miles per day.

Not a problem at all. It's normal, particularly if you're doing shorter journeys. Largely a symptom of having a long filler pipe. Nothing to worry about.

Just to help put your mind at rest I had a ton of gunge last winter....nothing at all (clean as a whistle) through Summer....now back to gunge in the damp weather...

OPC had a look and said 'normal'. Apparently the place to look if you are worried is the coolant overflow tank, if there is scum or an unusual colour in there it is worth getting checked!
