Gunk in my oil!

Hi all,
Topped up my oil today and found yellow gunk at the top.
Is it what i'm dreading, head gasket?
I have checked my oil pressure and it doesn't seam to lose any pressure!
Any thoughts/

If it is only at the top end of the filler neck then most if not all of the NA 996s do that as the filler tube always remains relatively cool and moisture condenses on it. It tends to happen from Autumn till Spring then disappears in the warmer weather. This is assuming there are no other symptoms of the cooling system overheating/ presurising or there is oil in the coolant tank.

First have you been doing short runs?
A good heat through might clear it.

Timely reminder for everyone to keep coolant changes up to date; i assume the 996 needs the two year
interval; or five year if you have confidence in long life.

Haven't even collected mine yet so will bow to anyone's superior knowledge.

I would say you will be lucky if its only a head gasket.

Is it difficult to remove the filler cap with the engine running?.

Mayo in the filler neck is really common, for precisely the reason minny says.

If there is no trace of oil in the water, and vice-versa, I wouldn't worry.

I will clean the gunk out, take her for a good long run and then have another look (once cooled).
Big relief though, thanks guys!

I do have a smell of oil from the drive side rear wheel arch. Ihad this on my 964 and that turned out to be perrished pipes, so I will get this checked out at Northway!

Even doing long runs in the cold weather did not prevent it happening. In the 3 years I had the carrera, it always smelt of oil from the driver's side as my cam covers were quite leaky. After a run of 6 miles it can smell of hot rubber, probably from tyre bits thrown onto the silencers.

I feel much better for your comments, Thanks.

Hopefully around June/July i'm taking her to Thruxton, I thought I had a big repair bill before I even get there!

Thanks guys.

PS what's happened to my pic?
