Hi Guys there has been a lot about HID lights on the forum and as the lights on my 964 were very poor I thought I would try and do something about it, well as you know by law you have to have headlamp washers and a leveling system to have HID headlamps so we are ok on that front. I have seen HID kits on ebay but have poor reports from customers. So spoke to the guys at Carnewal and bought a kit, It's a simple job to fit no wires to cut or join, just plug in and it works, I did tape the boxes on to the inside of the headlamp bowls, I fitted one then tried it to see if it worked I was not suprised how bright it was but amazed how dim the old one was. Anyway all fitted beamset and very happy with the result no headlamp flashing from oncoming cars and I can see a little further ahead, cost about £100.00 . Berny.

Didn't know that headlamp washers were a legal requirement for HID's - why's that then? I too thought about HID's but then replaced the lousy bulbs with new blue xenons - higher than normal wattage. Nice and bright enough for me (although no doubt HID's are brighter).

The washers are a new MOT 'proposal' at the moment, for cars that are fitted with HID lights as an after market fit. You will have to have washers and automatic self levelling - maual operated electrical levelling is not sufficent. So if you fit HID lights and these proposals become a madatory requirement you may well fail the MOT if these are fitted to a 964.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Interesting - seems a bit over the top forcing this on earlier cars... I probably get the auto levelling bit, but washers?!

We'll all be told we must have tyres with a minimum 1.6mm tread depth next...

As I said the idea of washers and self levelling for aftermarket HID lights are only a proposal. However of more immediate relevance to us is that from January 1st, if a car was fitted with a CAT (as all 964's were) then it MUST be in place for the MOT - even if it passes the emissions test without a CAT. This is part of a raft of new requirements for the MOT test in 2012.

Gets more complex by the day as there was an option to have no cat on the 964 how will the mot tester know it the car should have a cat or not! they will have have to check the list of options for that car to see if it has M150 Regards Berny.
