Hi All,

I'm currently seeking help with my S2 cab history to confirm mileage and try & find out the answer as to why the speedo under reads by 10mph? First Reg in March 1991 as H1DRH until Oct 1998 then re-reg as KAS1A until July 1999 when it was reg as H228CBW?

If anyone was or knows any of the former owners who can help me confirm any history details I would be grateful?
I purchased the car in August 2009 with only that owners history (good stuff on mech's work done) plus his HPI check carried out in Feb 2005. He received no history on acquisition. The car is Cobalt Blue is missing data label in the boot & paint code under bonnet, looks like had some repaint work done, is general clean good mechanically as is engine had some electrical issues to sort out (mainly central locking) plus the elusive speedo error? Web search reveals possible speedo change with different gear ratio on replacement thus making recorded mileage suspect? No axe to grind love the car just looking to reflect accurate history and resolve speedo error issue?

Hi Tony - Sorry - no help on your S2 but I have a similar situation with my 1991 which came to Canada from Japan. Superb condition but option label missing from the trunk, no documentation from Japanese ownership (couldn't read it anyway[:D]) and speedo reads under also. Mine varies a little between low and high speed (using the GPS as a reference) but is about 10kph low. I notice the odo does not track the miles smoothly - pretty "ratchety" especially when closing on a thousand increment. I'd be very happy to find out what is causing your low readings as I might have a similar problem.

Good luck

Hi Tony.

10 percent is a large under read so I bet you need to be careful not to be caught inadvertently speeding [] quick thought - do you have the right size tyres on the rear. If they have too high a profile it could be adding to the problem

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for reply, had one insight on another thread suggesting it could be as simple as the needle alignment? It appears white dial faces where popular a while back which involved removing the needle unscewing the old dial face & replacing with white one? Mine hasn't got white dials but like everything they came & went out of fashion so could have reverted to original and along the way refitting the needle becoming misaligned?
If you haven't been there before check out Clarkes garage web site, a USA site for 944's lots of useful info on how to take apart & replace etc, explains about speedo gear ratio's how to dismantle and company's that can supply speedo parts + repair facilities! The best site I've found for DIY know how across a wide range of aspects all dedicated to 944's. You'll find it mentioned in 944 tech threads on the forum or a quick google search should do it? Hope this helps?

Hi Paul,

Yes I keep a wary eye on the speedo especially in built up areas, we all know how easy it is to speed unintentionally in a 944! I've checked out tyre & wheel sizes they are all original spec. see my reply above to Bruce ref needle misalignment!

Regards
