Had problems with the handbrake ratchet

Recently my wife complained that the handbrake in her 1986 924S wouldn't stay on however hard she pulled it up ( I have many times tried to persuade her to hold in the button as she pul it on,etc)?
Having therefore tried it several times ,although I could get it to latch an odd time,it was clearly not working correctly.
Before removing the mechanism,I checked availability of the pawl & ratchet part & was pleasantly surprised to find both parts are available , from Germany cost £29 £ 48 respectively.

So removed drivers seat & mechanism ( only 2 M8 bolts ) & unhooked brake cable from base of lever.

I found for some reason that the button was not fully screwed onto the internal operating rod & also the button Spring had managed to pass through the centre hole of the pressed steel retaining cup farther down the inside of the lever leading to a much reduced operating Spring pressure on the pawl, consequently it wasn't properly & reliably engaging with the ratchet quadrant.( car is 36 yrs old in it's defence??).

I gently & carefully reformed the worn teeth on the pawl (ratchet was good) ,reassembled the mechanism after cleaning & a little careful lubrication using petroleum jelly ,making certain the button was fully tight on the operating rod & refitted everything to the car.
Delighted to find it now works as originally intended.

PET parts page is a reference plus Haynes manual for 924 late models-944 version is not as clear.
