This is taken from my Macan GTS handbook, but can anyone explain why this measurement is important?

It makes no sense to me why the distance from the earth terminal to the top of the adapter is critical. Maybe I'm missing something!

Clive I've seen the same. I'm guessing the earth connection in the socket doesn't go down towards the bottom, hence the one marked with a cross wouldn't connect. I'll go and have a look now......

Hi Clive,
It's only important because this Negative connector doesn't touch the Negative of the car socket.
This is how this adapter is power. The center piece is the POSITIVE & the side piece is the NEGATIVE

I would assume that the design of the in-car sockets is only compatible with male adaptor / connector type A ... re. where the in-car socket earth connection is positioned

If you plug B into your aux socket there will be no earth connection

Looking on-line there are different types of male socket, having different positions & lengths of earth connectors / strips

Taking a closer look at B, the earth terminal is lower than in A, so maybe this is the concern Porsche has and suggests the low earth strip may not either a) make contact with side of the socket or b) shorts out with the live terminal at the bottom. However, quoting a measurement from the top seems misleading since not all adapters are the same length.

Irrespective of the handbook instruction, I plugged mine in last evening - it has 60mm between top and the earth strip and all seems well and it charged satisfactorily overnight. So maybe it is the distance from the lower positive point to earth that is important - in in my case this is 30mm and perhaps this would be have been a better measurement to quote in the handbook.
