Handbrake Leather Damage

I have somehow scagged the leather on the handbrake leaver on my Cayman S.

Can this leather part be replaced?

Hi Trevor, unfortunately in their wisdom Porsche made it that the leather handle can only be bought already fitted to the lever or alternatively there are some other handles made of other materials such as aluminium available either from Porsche or elsewhere.

But to remove the grip first pull off the button then grip the leather grip and twist to break adhesion, once it can be twisted it should be possible to slide it off the lever, the leather grip has a plastic sleeve inside which is attached to the lever by a small amount of adhesive. Some have destroyed the grip to then find the plastic sleeve still firmly in place but this can be filed along the top to allow it to be split and peeled off, messy and time consuming but it should get the job done. Installation of a new grip is to clean up the lever and using a small amount of adhesive if you feel it necessary slide the new grip into place on the lever and refit the button. Carbon Fibre, Alloy or wooden grips are available on Ebay, Porsche sell them as optional fitments but they will be to order and usually come as sets of gear knob and handbrake grip.

Hi All Thanks for the responce. At present I am trying the following. I bought some leather seat colour dye and repair kit when I first bought the car incase the drivers seat got scuffed on the leading edge as it has on my previous cars with leather seats. In the instructions it tells you how to repair scagg type damage which is by building up with thin layers of dye and then finishing with a diluted mix to obtain the smooth finish. I have so far applied two layers with a sausage stick into the damaged areas (25mm long by 4mm wide intermittant )and then smoothed it with my finger. So far the result is excellent and very difficult spot. With a nice thin coat to finish I think this might be the answer. How long it will last will remain to be seen, but as it is not in a high wear area or likely to get creased I am hopeful it will survive. Trevor

That's excellent news Trevor! Let us know how it goes. Where did you get the kit from?

There was a lady @ the Swissvax open day last weekend (Company was LTT I think) who demonstrated a range of products and the work on the knackered blue leather seat was amazing!!. They do coloured repair pens and coloured cream that you apply and the results were so good - they can colour match to anything.

First few words there I thought was a limerick starting! LTT eh Chris, I'll google it and Swisswax as I have a couple of nicks on my handbrake grip too.[:D]

Well I googled LTT and they don't list my colour but I sent them an email so should hear tomorrow.
