Original dampers? As in the dampers supplied with the car from the factory?
I'm not a great expert but most dampers are screwed by the time they have done 50,000 miles. The dampers have the job preventing the wheels oscillating with the shocks absorbed by the springs, in other words they absorb the energy from the springs damping the oscillations. If they are knackered every bump/imperfection you encounter will cause the wheels to oscillate for a time, breaking the wheel's contact with the road and unsettling the car.
