Hands-on garage day, East London. 26th July

Chaps,

Colin (944LIL) has prompted me to arrange another one of these. The format is simple. I enjoy spending warm weekends tinkering with my S2, and I know a number of other forum members have similar past-times. Such things are always more fun done with friends, so let's do it together.

The suggested date is Sunday 26th July. (An alternative is Saturday 29th August; a Bank Holiday weekend.)

I'm happy to suggest my pad as a venue, although it doesn't have a garage or any off-road space to put cars on (although the road we live on is a quiet residential one.) Having said that, if anyone else wants to volunteer a better place then please do so. FWIW, I live in East London, about 5 minutes from Mile End tube.

I'm happy to provide lunch (think bread-and-soup rather than lobster thermidor) and as good a supply of tea and coffee as the catering department can manage. You need to provide your 944 and a list of minor things that need doing and the parts to do them (we'll not be into fitting superchargers or changing engines, but servicing or changing a CV joint or some brake disks or pads or something similar is quite possible.) You'll also need to bring your overalls and toolkit, and a fair 'ol tub of elbow grease as you'll be doing the work!

It's not a PCGB meet, or event, or rally. In fact, it's nothing to do with PCGB at all.

Last time we had one of these it was really a bit too cold to do any work, but Colin (944LIL), James (James_G) and Iain (millimeep) all turned up and it was good to meet them.

So ... anyone up for it?

Oli.

ETA: FWIW, here's a link to the thread about the last one. With photos. I'm the good-looking chap in the middle .. [:)]

Would love a day like this - why must you live so far away Oli ? [8D] If and when you see the light and move 'up north' gimme a shout [:D] Mike PS - for those lucky b*gg*rs that are close enough, hope the sun shines on you so you can get plenty done !

Mike, The answer is to organise one yourself, for all you northern types!

I will do. And when I do, I will do. (Read it again! [:)] ) Thanks for your good wishes. Oli.

Oo, this sounds interesting as I am only in N8, could we fit a Promax Chip to my S2? Its something I've considered doing myself but it would be useful to have the assistance of someone who has done it before. Edd

Edd, N8? I probably drive in your area regularly ... ! I've never fitted a chip. But I am sure there will be more than enough people there willing to help you make a complete mess of it! Actually, I'd be very interested to see how much difference it makes. A chip is something I (regularly) consider for my S2. A (passenger) ride before and after would be politely requested. Oli.

hiya oli, count me in for july but away in august, just confirm where and i really look forward to meeting you all then, as far as i am aware my baby is running fine at present but i am sure something will crop up usually something silly...oops just remembered my seatbelt light slightly tempremental, but pop down to say hello anyway! great idea oli,see you all soon jason p

I really like the sound of this - could whizz down the A12 to say hello though as of this moment I dont have anything that needs tinkering with on the car. B*gger as I typed that just realised that 26th July clashes with Silverstone classic though as yet have not bought myself a ticket. Is it ok if I say I could provisionally make either the July or August date ? Will just have to play it by ear (and assuming that something as vulgar as a forced induction 944 would be welcome at such a gathering [;)]) Seriously, would be great to meet up with some folk and put faces to names. [:)]

I'm only doing the Sunday at Silverstone, and as such I've encouraged everyone else to go on Sunday as well. [&o] Go for August. The weather will be better then. Except at Silverstone, where it'll be better in July. [&:]

Unfortunately I live in Glasgow and no longer have a '44.... [&:] but do I commend your excellent idea Oli. [8D] . Working on the car is much more pleasant with an extra pair of hands. I'm posting as I fitted a chip to our S2 ~ it was a Blitz Chip, which - as I understand it - was used as the basis for the current Promax map. I felt it was a worthwhile improvement - smoothes the noticable step in power around 4k rpm and whilst it made no difference at lower rpm it certainly felt more urgent at the top end. It cost me a lot less than Ă‚ÂŁ100, but I would have been happy to pay that amount for the result. Fitting is pretty easy - the only tricky part was splitting the two pcbs inside the ECU, but only because two clips are hidden in the "mouth" of the connector. As soon as you figure how these work its easy - just be careful removing the chip from the socket.

Oli Thanks for taking the lead on this again. Unfortunately I can't do July as I'm away with the family ([:)]and[]) Which means I could drop LIL off with a long list of stuff that needs doing.... [:D] So hopefully see you in August....

Sounds great Oli, both dates good for me. Currently nothing* wrong with my S2, so happy to help others, just as long as it doesn't involve removing the dash!! Maybe I should spend the time re-fitting my orange indicators? Will bring my fancy pants jack too. James * Relatively speaking

I'll make an appearance to this. It's a shame it's not earlier as my belts need changing LOL, and well it's been 4 years/15,000 miles since they were last done! Still, it will be good to come down and see what sort of work can be done:).

Chaps, Keeping this in the front of people's minds: a decision has been made on a date for this, and it will happen on Saturday 29th August. That's a bit over a month's time. (Other suggested date was a week or so's time.) It is the Saturday of the late August Bank Holiday weekend. Let me know on here if you want to come (well welcome). Or PM me, and I'll PM some directions back. (Oh and if anyone can arrange some good weather for that day then please do so!) Oli. ETA: Mods, if you could change the date in the thread title to 29th August I'd be grateful - thanks.

Would have liked to have made this - unfortunately I will be a bit far away for a couple of weeks work - hope you get some good weather - I wont! Tony

ORIGINAL: tref Ah-ha! So the date has changed, I may now be able to get along to this.
Great! It'll be great to meet you. Currently I'm not 100% sure who is and who isn't coming ... can everyone who is planning on being there confirm, by posting on here or sending me a PM - thanks. (That way I can get the catering department to brew enough tea for everyone!) Oli.

Oli I'm still good for this so count me in. Quick blast of carb cleaner on the ISV valve but otherwise nothing needed doing on mine currently. That could all change of course..... Cheers James
