Hankook RS2

Richard, I had them on my 944 S2 and have put them on my 968 road car. TBH this is probably not an ideal track tyre unless you want something very strong and hard wearing with grip levels similar to a road tyre. Its a tyre I like a lot but the compound is simply way to hard. When I first went on track with them after 500 road miles, it took 2 sessions before I had worked the rubber enough for them to start gripping well. Getting enough heat into them is the problem and this is the main reason why they can be a bit "entertaining" in the wet. Once warmed up there OK which is why during the summer they are perfectly safe on my 968 for road driving, anything below 10 C ambient and they have practically no grip. Once warmed up on track though they can off pretty quick as well due to the tyre going over pressure, in this scenario the grip goes away very quickly.

The thing I really like about them is the construction, they have a super rigid carcass and this makes the car feel like its on rails, also when you get up to the limit you don't have to make steering corrections etc. to get the last bit of grip out of em. However by the same token I have talked to a couple of ppl that hated them for this same reason, they said they couldn't feel or predict the limit and they tended to promote understeer, personally I think those guys didn't have a very good feel for the car and liked a bit of tyre roll, squidge and body roll to tell em what was happening. As an example I found with these tyres I could transition in and out of understeer without the resultant kick to the back end causing oversteer you get with tyres that have a soft handling characteristic.

Its a shame really that Hankook didn't make this tyre as a high performance road tyre instead, with a decent rubber compound, silica and all that stuff it would be a brilliant road car tyre but unfortunately my experience of this tyre is its a bit of jack of all trades master of none.

No idea what they would be like on a 911 but hopefully I have been of some help.
