Well 18 months and 26,000 miles on from buying my 964 it has just clicked over the 100,000 mile mark.
It's had two 12K services, new front wishbones at 80K, new dissy caps at 86K, a new steering rack at 97K, new belts at 98K, some new pads and tires in that time. Never failed to start. Never broken down.
Engine has leaked since I bought it but no big deal IMO. In fact recently it seems to be leaking a lot lot less. Proves oil leaks arn't worth being paranoid about. It'll get sorted when the engine needs attention. Engine is currently still in rude health and pulls like a train.
Some random things I have learn't in that time
1/ The whole C2/C4 debate seems more about which you prefer than road conditions. I have driven the C2 in terrible conditions, in sleet, through floods etc and have never felt unsafe. If this was somewhere like Finland and there was a lot of snow I might need a C4 but not in England. BTW I have discovered that you can surf through deeper floods in a 911 than you probably could in a front engined car because the engine and electrics in the back are very well protected from the water.
2/ White is a great colour. The paint is very hard. You can let the car get really dirty, give it a wash and every time it comes up beautiful as does not show scratches. Much easier to look after than my dark blue car which is a PITA.
3/ The standard Porsche OEM suspension is great for mile crunching when in good condition and using factory recommended geo settings. It rides on 17" Cup 1s. Never felt the need lower or upgrade as this is only a road car and is a daily driver. Why upset something that works so nicely.
4/ The car dynamics are much more like the earlier 911s than the 993 and later cars. The change in the rear suspension on the 993 and later to introduce kinematic toe did tame the rear of the 911. You don't have that comfort factor with the 964 and you can feel the weight moving around under hard braking.
5/ Buying a good car to start with pays long term dividends.
6/ 964s are seen as cool by Joe Public. Never had any abuse from fellow drivers. Even get thumbs up from the Nova brigade :-o
7/ The gear change is like every other 911. Take your time, don't rush it and it's lovely.
8/ You can red line the engine every one of those 26,000 miles and you know the car will take it.
So Happy 100,000 to my car :- )
