Happy 2008!

Hello everyone,

Just another update for you for early 2008 in additional to our Moderator's wise comments (hi Stuart![;)])

Nick and I have agreed to fire up the R5 forum a bit this year. It's been a bit quiet recently, but we think that it's a great way to keep you all informed about what's going on in North West Region. After all, there are apparently around 700 of you out there!

There's going to be loads happening this year. Car shows, runs, monthly meetings at The Deanwater (various Porsche & non-Porsche topics) etc etc.

So if you're new to the club, or an old hand, tune in regularly here to find out what's going on. We're always looking for new people to come along to the monthly meetings - they're very friendly and you might even enjoy yourself!

I'm going to try to keep you informed about club drives out to places of interest. The plan is that these will really get going in May - probably on the 4th Sunday of every month. I for one like getting my car out on dry bright days in the winter/spring, so keep a regular eye out if you're like-minded. [8D] If you have any ideas about routes, please do let me know. You can email me directly (roddylennox@yahoo.co.uk) or pop your comments up here.

Let's hope that 2008's going to be a great one for R5!

Roddy

Hello all,

I second all that what roddy has said, lets make R5 a great one, I am also a member of another car club, they have different events i.e. port sunlight, a nice village atmosphere/setting for a car show, also a great museum and art gallery to look around with a nice restaurant/cafe, also plenty to see and do, if theres a genuine interest I might be able to bring people from that club to a club night and give a talk, and even perhaps give a small presentation to us all, maybe combine the two clubs to make an even better event.

Heres an example of what shows they might be able to offer us, town centre shows e.g. oldham (cars are safe as think security is provided) and regular police patrols, village shows in saddleworth like uppermill and greenfield, nice setting, plenty of cafes, museums to look around, make a good family day out.

I'll attach a picture from port sunlight, might give members an idea of the setting, this show is usually in September.

Nick.

Hello Nick.
Suggest you have a word with P.M. re presentation --- sounds a good idea as we both know how well oiled their machine is and a good example for a our region to follow. Port Sunlight is a brilliant venue and other clubs do join in. The same goes for the Uppermill Show. Sometimes it is better ,I feel, to join in rather than be insular, as so many of our events are, or sited in places that offer limited attractions/amenities.
As Roddy says let's make 2008 a good year and hopefully get the e-mail circulation set up as a priority to improve communication among the members --- any volunteers !!
Cheers.

Think you mentioned Port Sunlight before and would certainly come along. Quite happy to try a few new places and mix with other clubs. If everyone enjoys a day out, what does it all matter where you are?!

Roddy

Would be great to see more info on the forum here. When I joined the club last year, I expected a lot more in terms of emails/forum posts to tell us what was being planned but it was very quiet. It would make a good start to 2008 to pile this full of info for new or prospective members. Although, from the meeting the other night, it seems some think we should all be reading our Porsche Post and nothing else[;)] Let's try and include as many as possible, not exclude them.

As for runs out, Macclesfield to Matlock Bath and back has always been a good one - plenty of good stops en route. Or possibly to Bakewell and time it for the Bakewell Show.

Good luck guys. Keep us informed of what's going on and I'll put the word out on the numerous other Porsche forums I frequent.

The sooner we know if Marc from 9M is coming to talk at the next club night, the better, so that we can let people know. I think there will be a lot of current and potential members interested in this.

Similarly there are motorsport events involving Porsches coming up at Oulton Park in the spring (Porsche RS trackday, British GT and Porsche club championship round). These are great days out and even better when spent with other Porschaholics. With the right co-ordination we can get members to all park on the same bit of grass inside the circuit.

Hi Tim,

Yes have mentioned this show before, but as we got limited interest I did'nt persue, maybe i'll get someone to come along to one of the club meets and introduce who they are and what their club is about, at the last NW meeting there was quite an indepth discussion about sorting events, and sorting communication between members via the forum.

I did a run some time ago from the cat and fiddle to derwent water, an enjoyable scenic drive.

Nick.

Following on from club night Wednesday January 9th, maybe a monthly regional email could be a useful addition? Doesn't cost anything to produce (other than time spent typing and hitting "send") and if we can improve on the 5% of membership (regularly) attending clubnights it must be a plus. Mrs F and me left early at 10.30 ish so I don't know if the question of availability of email addys was bottomed out?

Has anyone given any thought to moving the venue for club night around the region to try and encourage more members to turn out? Again, if advance notice was given to all members via email., at preceding club night and via PP people should get the message. The Deanwater is very handy for us, but we wouldn't object to travelling further afield if members felt this could add value.

Hi Fraser - the remit when selecting a venue was always a central location within the region and consistancy. The Deanwater has proved secure and is pretty central within region 5 - last time a postcode check was done 90% of members fell within 20 miles radius. To know that the meeting always takes place on the second Wed of month at the same location, 'should' help members rather than relying on a round robin email address system notifying change of venue.
There will always be extremes of course. Introducing 'sub-groups' detracts and dilutes the effort put in by the RO/Committee.
The forum & email definately promote last minute events - just check out places like Pistonheads.

Hi Graham - many thanks for taking the time to post, and for the insight into the Deanwater venue and demographics of R5 membership - the rationale for the venue makes good sense.

I agree creating sub-groups doesn't add value.

Thanks for your comments folks. It's great to get people giving us feedback like this from the forum. Then Nick & I plus anyone else, can feed this into the monthly meetings. I'm taking notes now!

I am going to phone Cornbury House tomorrow to see if Nick & I can get the email addresses for all of the NW members, then we can get a monthly newsletter/email together.

The forum is the place for ideas & information dissemination. Monthly meetings are for the decisions to be made in our region (IMHO [;)]).

Keep the comments coming - your input is vital [8D]

Will do. There's a committee meeting on Monday, which I'm going along to. After that, I'll post an update for everyone. [8D]

I've emailed Cornbury House for a list of NW Region members' email addresses so that we can get a monthly email update going. Still waiting for a reply.

Regards
Roddy
