Hi all,

I just thought I would say a quick hello. I picked up my first Porsche last week and am as pleased as punch so far.

Its a late J plate Titanium 944 Turbo (SE?) with cream leather/carpets and black dash and is in pretty immaculate condition, bar the wheels which could do with a refurb. Its just awesome.

I will post you a few more piccies up so you can let me know your thoughts when I stop draining Esso of their fuel reserves.

Off to boost.

Cheers,

Charlie

I saw that on Pistonheads - looked very nice! Even the wheels looked OK in the pics.

We're standing by for your questions [;)] (I really struggled to find the trip reset on my first journey in mine [8|] )

It looked like the boost control was all standard - that'll be the first thing to look at in the quest for more power [:D]

Car looks really nice - I hope you enjoy it.....and the PCGB.

I have just cleaned - not that it really needed it - the interior of my cab - it too has linen leather and cream carpets etc. All came up like new so if you need any tips here give me a shout.

Enjoy the car..........FB

From one (fairly) new owner to another - "Welcome". You'll love your 944 and this forum is fantastic too! Frazer, I'm, planning a winter clean on my linen leather and cream carpets - any tips? Thanks, benny boy

Nice car Charlieb, look forward to some more piccies [:D]

Bennyboy what wheels are yours? And is yours standard ride height?
Looks nice.

Hi Lemon, they're 18" Speedline Alessio split-rims, and the cars on the lowest setting on M030 suspension. Thanks for the comment.

Must be something in the air! 1 week, 3 days since I picked up my new turbo. Most of the niggles I'm pleased to say have been fixed or are planned to be fixed very soon and like you I'm loving the boost!!

Enjoy!! [:D]

Hi chaps,

Firstly thanks for the warm reception. Yip thats the one from Pistonheads. Just got back from a little spin down the A3. Cant seem to peel myself from the seat.

Funny one that trip swith [;)] took me about half an hour then I gave up. Then stumbled upon it when I started to fiddle with the Air Con and re adjust the vents.

Cant get over how capable it is though. I cant seem to find any driving situation in the short length of time I have been driving it that it isnt short of excellent in. Im sure you all know this anyway.

Two things that bug me about it. The steering wheel makes a scratchy noise when turning as if the plastic is rubbing sommewhere. And secondly the steering itself when stationary if you turn the wheel it sounds like a loud rubbing/whining noise not from the pump but sort of a loud vibration.. it doesnt do this while on the move at all though. only when totally stationary []

Also the right headlight circuit blows 7.5 fuses the second the lights are switched on/raised and as a temp fix ive popped a 15 in. How do I assertain the problem. I fitted a new bulb and it still does it. So not suure there

Also what if anything is SE spec. [&:] I thought they where all SE spec or whatever post silver rose? Funny thing though is that it doesnt have the MO30 suspension option. Is that an odd combo? Also I thought the linen leather was the 'logo' leather. Mine are perforated but certainly more leather than linen and not logod.

Tips on brining them up would be really useful. Recently i have been looking on detailing world. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/ Some of the things going on over there are out of this world. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=40734

Cheers again.

Charlie

Hi Charlie and welcome. Ref your headlight check the wiring especially near the light unit itself as it can chaff due to the pop up action and cause a short that blows the bulb/fuse.

Enjoy the experience - been driving 944s since Dec 93 with my current S2 since Apr 96. Always puts a smile on my face.

I thought the linen leather was the 'logo' leather.

First thing is your horn contact. Need to remove the wheel and adjust it. Easily done by a specialist, otherwise... assuming it's the original "lozenge" wheel with the rectangular centre horn pad... remove the horn pad by pulling it up from one side. It feels like you're about to break it. You're not. (From memory) It has firm retention doo-dahs at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock.
Unplug the wire and remove the 24mm nut holding the wheel on. Remove wheel and you'll see the contact on the stalks that permenantly rests against the rear face of the steering wheel. If it's misaligned it permenantly rests against other bits too and does yer heid in. [&:]

Resonance in the power steering pipes is normal ~ try not to let it bother you. [:D]

"Linen" is Porsche speak for cream coloured leather. Confusing eh? [8|]

Hi Charlie, I do like Titanium 944's [:)] There are not many about and I was about to go and look at one before I bought mine but was pipped by another member of this forum (who still has it).

The contact for my horn occasionally starts to grate. I just drizzle a thin smear of 2in1 into the gap and it quietens it down for a year or two. You could try replacing the power steering fluid to see if it quietens it down. The fluid is not on any regular service schedule so could be pretty old and manky

The S, SE spec is a common topic for discussion. Basically the cars started out as 220bhp turbos in 1985. In 1987 they launched the 'limited edition' silver rose with 250bhp. In 1988 all turbos came with 250bhp. In the UK market they were never badged up as S or SE but a few cars have S in the log book. Basically what I'm saying is an S or SE is a 250bhp car.

1987-1989 had M030 as standard, after that it was an option that not many owners seemed to specify so is not common.

I use http://www.liquidleather.com/ which is a really good cleaner and also a good conditioner which keeps it supple and smelling leathery [:D]

The steering wheel makes a scratchy noise when turning as if the plastic is rubbing sommewhere. And secondly the steering itself when stationary if you turn the wheel it sounds like a loud rubbing/whining noise

I have had both problems.

Scratchy noise was cured by silicon spray applied between the wheel boss and cowling.

Whining noise stopped when I applied a little more tension to pump belt

Thanks for all the help there chaps. Looks like there is a list of stuff for me to crack on with at the weekend then. And by the sounds of it I wont have to open the cheque book up.

I really like the titanium and the car looks ageless in the colour in a way. Titanium/silver colours sort of seem to be default for people buying modern sports coupes. A friend has a 350z in titanium/silver colour and whilst a far more modern design doesnt actually look that much newer. A point of note though is the size of the thing, parked next to mine and looking down from a high viewpoint its like another half a car bigger. Which makes the 44 look even more purposeful. [:)]

Linen leather.. I get it now..[;)]

Thanks again guys.

Charlie
