Happy with your service?

Having spent the thick end of £300k on three new Porsches in the past 5 years, I thought it not unreasonable to expect a commensurate level of after care service. More recently I have noticed a distinct drop in the quality of that service and so decided to move my business to another, on the surface, more willing OPC centre who seem to appreciate my business. I have had a number of very negative experiences and decided enough is enough. With the no doubt increased year on year targets each centre has to work with, the wide range of vehicles in the range (how will the Macan change this I wonder?) and the "commoditised" approach to the whole experience, is it time to become the equivalent of those who shop around for the "best" deal on their mortgages, savings, mobiles ,etc and express one's freedom to go wherever they like - OPC or independent? I often see threads on this forum of members also using different service centres, usually down to a poor experience - maybe I'm just catching up having been too complacent. I'd be interested to learn if there was a "user satisfaction" rating across sales and service for OPCs that we could see?

I believe it makes no difference on where you purchase the car anymore versus the service you receive if the car has been bought there. After all, it is "product" that is sold on a global basis and can be ordered online (almost) through a product catalog configurator (a la BMW). So, as the components of the car are chosen by yourself, the only other differentiator of the OPC is "service" as everything else is pretty much out of their control.

"Customer Service" is a state of mind and some OPCs, but even more so independents, understand and live this mantra continuously better than most OPCs. Exceptional service or attention to detail are rare occurences but still do exists but it varies greatly between OPCs. I live 10 minutes from an OPC who I trust so much less than the other OPC to which I bring my car 45 minutes away from my house. Why, because the latter's personnel is more stable and thus I was able to establish a rapport and ultimately a history with them that ended up in a trusted position. However, the service or lack of it at the OPCs is not just a Porsche issue; it is pervasive with other marques, other industries or professionals (doctors, dentist, architects) as well, in my experience. It is for us to demand and check that service is given and delivered and if we don't complain nothing will change at an OPC or Mercedes or at BT.

I am taking my money to people that demonstrate that they care, not just saying they care. Ultimately, I have a choice and will exercise the choice.

I find the level of customer service afforded at my local OPC (Solihull) to be noticeably higher than at my local Audi & BMW dealerships.

Would completely agree with the service side.

I have purchased 10 new Porsches from Swindon OPC + one on the way. I get excellent after sales service from them.

Thanks Derek - you "Top Trumped" me there with 10 Porsches!![:)] Seriously committed.

I have my car booked in next week and will let you know if they are as good as Swindon! Its quick to forget the poor service once doing what the car's mean for anyway - driving![;)]

Should not matter if somebody has bought one or twenty cars TBH.

Looking at your numbers Derek do they ever get to the point of needing a service before you swap?

I believe he has kept one for nearly 3 years but that may just be a vicious rumour[:D]

Most are 6 months or less!!!!!

Only dealt with my OPC (JCT 600 - Leeds) a few times (service on my old Cayman and currently with a couple of issues with the 911), neither car being purchased from them, but I have to say, the level of customer service, knowledge and help they have given me far exceeds my expectations.

I have had all sorts of cars over 40 years of motoring and dealt with all sorts of dealers, but I have to say that the Porsche experience has been the best so far (touch wood)!!

Off topic, but just come back from a weeks ski ing in Cervinia, Italy and Porsche Italy must have been running some sort of ski event in the village. There were banners up all over the place, hospitality tents and 991's, Panameras, Boxters, Caymans etc all over the place. Nice complement to the ski-ing for us...
