hard Brake lines

I'm about to start refurbishing my engine bay and re-building the engine....being a bit fussy I want to plate the fitings on the hard brake lines in the engine bay can anyone see anything wrong with plating the whole line and then spraying them so they look original and new...or is there a better way without buying new[:D]

I don't see how plating the lines would hurt? I would imagine there is already some kind of zinc plating on the inside/outside of the steel lines. I would ask the plater if they would plug the lines to avoid the plating chemicals getting on the inside...

Here's some line that looks a bit like the standard Porsche stuff and it claims to be zinc plated:

Actually I have a question for you! To replace the brake lines on the back of the car, do you need to remove the torsion bar carrier, transaxle or both? Do you have any good photos showing the rear hard line routing on your car?

cheers Rob I think I'll try plating what's the worst that can happen[:)]

I re used the old lines just cleaned and added new paint I remember getting the brake lines over the torque tube was a bit of a fiddle that was with the trans and axle carrier removed, it may be possible with bendy copper pipe but I doubt it.........I,m sure someone more experienced than will know for sure.

Ken, the opc ones are daft prices i priced a couple up for the rear of my 220, ended up doing them in copper, i would be a bit of wary of Mr Ying Yans brake lies (made in China [:(] )

yes don't I know it spent a furtune on the rear lines and caliper crossovers, the engine bay lines are all good but I want the fittings to be gold looking so I'm hoping to re plate

get the car back tomorrow so the fun starts then[:D]
 
I replaced all the brake lines on my car with Kunifer. Cost me about £20 for a roll of pipe and a pack of fittings.Why not do that then paint them to look original. I wasn't bothered about the original colour etc as I wanted them to look like they had been changed for trouble free kunifer.

What's your thought on replacing the brake lines without dropping the transaxle, torsion bar carrier and torque tube (ulp... didn't even think about the torque tube).

I did mine with everything in place. However I had the car up on a ramp, and the ability to stand with your head beside the gearbox and look over the top of it helps. I replaced one after I re-indexed the back end. and I found it very difficult access wise with the car on stands. It is possible to do it but I think you would have a few scratches and bruises at the end of it.Although I must say I was using pipes that I mad as I went and flared the ends on the car. I don't think you could do it using original lines.
