Hi There
One week's ownership - and Im loving it!! Just a quick question though.....should the hard top on my 1999 C4 Cab be "rock solid" - its just that it squeeks and rattles quite a bit on on lovely pot-holed A and B roads - its pretty quiet on the motorway - Im not sure (never had a convertible with a hard top before) if this is pretty normal and just one of those things that you have to put up with??? Do any seals need lubrciating from time to time - have a pot of silcone grease at the ready......
thanks
Alex

There is a TSB covering this subject, and there are some instructions in the workshop manual for adjusting the hard top. If you would like the info, send me an email, and I'll attach them to a reply. About 1Mb in total, PDF files.

Alex,

I refitted my hard top for the winter a few weeks back, and started to get annoyed by several rattles & squeaks.

I noticed that the main squeak was coming from the passenger side inner lining so I investigated. I pulled the lining away from the top and noticed it was affixed by several metal toggles/clips. These were an absolute pain to refit and some wouldn't stay in place (when pushing the lining back against the hard top) and a couple actually broke!

So I rang my dealer for some replacements and they sent me some plastic ones.
At the same time I was also hunting, like yourself, for tips on noisy hard tops, and I found the TSB that Richard is referring to.
It does refer to replacing the metal clips with plastic, and having done so, the passenger side is now squeak free!
I just have one small rattle on the driver's side...

Regards, Neil.

Richard I emailled you in the hope of getting a copy of this, I am apple mac based, does the manuals you have on your system work on macs I wonder ?
