Hard Wired Road Angel - Hard to remove?

Hi all,

I went to see a 997 Cab today and whilst I'm generally happy with the car, it has 2 things I'd need your opinions on:

1. The car is fitted with some sort of Road Angel device, but the only evidence of this is a bit of exposed wire near the windscreen and dashboard.
I want an OPC Warranty on the car, so this would make it fail.....would I pay the OPC to remove it? How expensive would it be to remove as it's apparently hard wired in?

I think I can get it for £39k but I also have to remove an aftermarket sports exhuast he's put on too, and replacing it with a proper PSE which will add £2k

All this hooplah for an extended warranty hey?....and it will need a complete paintwork correction as black just shows up so many scratches doesn't it??

Hasan, Yes Black does show up the paintwork scratches but when done it does look amazing [8D]

I'd use an Indy to remove any 'extras' you need removing, the OPC need know nothing then...

An aftermarket exhaust could possibly return the same figure if sold on as the Porsche sports exhaust?? so possibly not £2 overall.

Does the seeler have the car under Porsche warranty as it could aid the transfer over easier.

Hi Gary,

No, the seller bought it from East London OPC 2 1/2 years ago and never extended the warranty after that.

The problem I have is that I don't want to buy the car, strip the stuff and take it for a warranty, and then be told there's more wrong with the car.
Neither do I want to pay for the 111 point inspection twice, both pre purchase and after stripping off the offending parts prior to issuing a new warranty.

This is the 3rd 997 I've seen and the first under 40k in black! (with low miles)

Will let you know how I get on....

As an observation, there seems to be many sellers who bought 2 years ago, absolutely cane the car, not look after it very well interms of washing and paintwork care and then sell on before the next service is due.

Very dissapointed with that aspect [:(]

I bought my 997 privately 12 months ago - it also had a hard wired Road Angel fitted. In December last year, it went through its 111 point check and I bought an extended warranty - there were no problems with:
  • The hard wired Road Angel
  • Toyo Proxys on the car
  • Pagid (as opposed to OE) pads
  • Uprated (i.e. non OE) brake and clutch fluids.

This was carried out by Porsche W.London.

Have you had reason to claim on the Warranty? Because according to some posters on PH, any claim would be turned down because of those non standard items.

Who knows how its hardwired, but i bet its just been tacked into a live feed in the fusebox in the footwell and the cable pushed behind the trim panels. Find the cable and pull it out until you get soem resistance ;)

Of course if it uses a separate gps aerial to the main box then it could be more complicated !

....now, don't get me worried, although, if I had to claim it would be unbelievably cynical for them not to pay out! They wouldn't do that.........would they!
