Hardtop Fitting Kit Advice ??

Does anyone know how to put in the hardtop fitting kit to a 2003 Boxster?

I would really like to avoid paying £80 for something I should be able to do myself (how hard can it be to put a bolt in a hole?), but I cannot find the right position to put the convertible top in to gain access (mmph, this isn't meant to sound rude[&:]). Do I need to remove some trim as well or am I just loosing my marbles (on second thoughts probably best not to answer that [:D])

I've got a technical manual for Boxsters up to 2002, but it's not much use as I guess with the roof totally changing, so too did the fitting instructions. It tells me the roof must be fully up to secure the bolts, but unless you are a martian with 8 inch double jointed & knuckled fingers I can't believe this is true.

Am now retiring hurt to soak sore fingers !!

some time ago when i fitted mine but seem to remember that i had to play about with the position of the hood but that this was either closed or nearly closed. I used a long screw driver in the allen key end to get the thread started and then just finally tightened with the allen key, i also had to sort of bend/hold the plastic side trims out the way when tighening, hope this helps!

If you contact "Black80XSA" from this forum, he emailed me the fitting instruction which unfortunately I have have deleted. He should be able to send them over if he still has them to hand, failing that, I will see if I can remember when I have the car with me.

Regards

Phil

We remove the trim cover for the seat belt. Then raise the top until it is almost all the way up so that the arm is not in the way.

Thanks guys !

Successfully managed to install the bolts without having to turn into an alien.

Many Thanks

Remove the carpet trim inside the rear of the door aperture - one single screw near the base. you'll also need to slacken the anodised bolt at the top of the panel, inside the roll over bar.

The trim on the passenger side also carires the heated rear screen wiring, so take extra care removing this side. You can safely unplug the wiring whilst installing the spinlocks.
Lower roof, install spinlock sleeves - they are handed, with a notch on them - make sure you get them the right way around, so that the 'groove' on the cylinder of the barrel is at the rear of the car. Ensure you tap the spinlocks fully down.

Then raise the roof until approx 4" from the windscreen rail. You will be able to see the bolt hole for the spinlock , maybe have to pull the inner lining to one side first.

Make a small hole in the corner of a plastic sandwich bag, place the bolt and allen key in the bag with the bolt thread sticking out of the corner of the bag. Then wind the bag around the allen key, so that the bolt and allen key fit tightly together and you cannot lose the bolt into the dark recesses of the car.

Screw the bolt in approx 70%, then undo the bag and pull the bag over the bolt head - then continue to tighten the bolt til its fully in.

Refit the carpet trim panels, ensuring you connect the heated rear window wire.

Thanks for that, managed to get the instructions from a past post !.
Only strudel when one bolt wouldn't start on the thread. Found that it wasn't going in square because of one of the roof supports. Had to push the outside of the O/S hood bar in so the bolt would line up. No problem.
