Hardtop heated rear screen problems

Hi,

I've had the hardtop on since late November and have not had reason to activate the heated rear screen until now.

Needless to say it won't work. So far I have checked:
[1] The two fuses that are mentioned in the fuses guide (enclosed within the fusebox panel) that relate to heated rear screen
[2] The switch itself lights up when i press it (I guess there is a relay somewhere, With the Hardtop off the heated screen in the soft top works fine...if I recall)
[3] The contacts on the left hand hardtop "prong" (cleaned some goop off these seem pretty shiny now...)
[4] The contacts in the socket for the left hand hardtop "prong"

Any thoughts?... I guess the wiring could be knackered...is there a diagnostic check that can be done?

You will need to carry out a continuity check of the heating element and the wiring on the hardtop. Check at the contacts first and then if this proves there is no continuity then you will need to get 'inside' to see if the cable is detached from the actual element itself.
Perhaps Richard may be able to provide more specific instruction.

Sorry - can't find anything in the manual. The system is just hard wired electrics, so no control module and no computer diagnostics.

There is a relay on the panel in the driver's side footwell. On the carrier it is in the top row, 4th from the left. Does it click when you press the switch? Also, are the door mirrors heating? They are on the same circuit. Other than that, Peter is correct - get to work with a meter.

OK..So I have some time this weekend to get the hardtop off and play around with the multimeter.

When the top is off the electrical contacts for the heated screen are exposed. Is there a microswitch or such like that needs to be engaged for the current to flow or can I simply switch on the circuit and expect to read a current accross the contacts with the meter?

In addition, I will also test for continuity of the heating element in the hardtop with the same multimeter.
