Hardtop rattles on boxster s

All,

Any ideas, getting peed off having just had the left side seals on my softtop replaced with OPC and costing £450 just for one side, due to a leek, now its winter now ive placed the hardtop on, all clicked into place nicely , followed the instructions and the front shows the white line indicator where it should be so therefore all lined up , drive down the road and the left handside front passenger side is rattling like mad and driving me up the wall as if it was loose.
My mate who owned a porsche reckons its a case of bedding in, im not convinced.
It doesnt leak but porsche again reckons the seals need replacing, and at 28.000 miles surely this cant be the case.
Any ideas what to look out for, im positive the roof is in its correct position.
driving me potty.

thanks in advance

steve

make sure that both the plastic/rubber caps are on the two prongs that fit into the top of the front screen, these get knocked off some times when you remove/store/refit, rap some insulation tape around it till you can get a replacement if this is the problem, I was informed that i would need new seals last winter and this was the problem I found that dealer didnt !!!!!

Thanks Tony. I too have a rattle problem with the hard top, but on the drivers side. If I press the drivers side "prong" hard whilst driving, the rattling stops. Obviously this method of irradicating the noise isn't going to contribute to road safety, so I'll check mine too. Is the remedy cheap or painful?

Soem OPCS recommend you lubricate the recess that the prong fits into wth Vaseline or silicon grease - this does an amazing job of quelling rattles - also make sure you lubricate all the rubber seals with BMW gumiflege or Autoglym bumper care gel.

Mine has a bit of a squeak too. It seems to come from the clip that holds it down at the front but could be from either of the prongs due to this rubber piece you've mentioned. Is there any way of tightening the clip at the front of the hardtop and does anyone know where the best place to get these rubber bungs from or is it just go to an OPC?

J.

Just as a follow up I've spoken to the guys at the OPC and they tell me that there aren't any of the rubber bung bits mentioned but that the clasp at the front can be adjusted or replaced (105 quid for a little clip!). Has anyone tried adjusing this themselves and did it get you anywhere?

Cheers

J
