Harewood house concours

sambaman

New member
Just got my Porsche Post through the door with a very very very very small bit about Harewood house here n there..nothing at all in the region 7 bit...does this mean the write up is going to be in the next issue ? or did region7 forget they hosted the Harewood house concours ????

the r7 porsche post column is poor. rarely any photos. compare and contrast with other regions. more effort required.

this month we're told to come to the July meeting for details of the doncaster races visit. very useful given that it was weeks ago.

Whoa - hold on here. The text of R7 entry states " A full description of our Concours ,with results and photographs, will be published in Concours Collection in this or next month's PP ". This, I think, covers Sambamans point. When stuff appears in PP is not always in the hands of the ROs.

Generally the entry is fine and informative - okay occasionally there is a slip up but we are all human and all have lives to lead outside the club ( important though it may be ).

We are very fortunate in having an active and well run region which is very much as a result of the work our ROs do on our behalf - contrast it with the inactivity and low/declining numbers in many other parts of the country.

The more people who actively do things to support the region the better it will be.

Andrew

I've only read this post today but felt compelled to reply to the comments so far.

Keith

I'm as disappointed as you were that the write-up of Harewood was omitted from this month's PP, especially given the time Lindsay (Dobby) and I spent on it and my efforts to meet the copy deadline, which fell on the day after I got back from holiday. However, as Andrew W pointed out, the Yorkshire Region column does say that the write-up will appear in this or next month's edition so as it's not in this month, I assume it will be in September's copy. This is the decision of the Editor and not one I can influence, although I will take it up with Chris Clark as I feel that being last in the alphabet means that Yorkshire Region ends up with less space than other Regions and cropped photos.

Andrew T

Your comment about the Doncaster races visit is valid - I accept the mistake and apologise for it. It was probably overlooked in the hurry to meet the copy deadline I mentioned in my reply to Keith above.

However, I do not accept that the write-ups for our Region are poor. I can only write-up what happens at our events (perhaps you think the events are poor - in which case, maybe you should help with suggestions for things we could do) and despite asking for help, end up writing them all myself (with the exception of Harewood which Lindsay helps me with). I even have to write-up events that I haven't attended, due to the lack of assistance. It can become a chore and is made more so when people like you suggest that the write-ups are poor. If you don't like what I write, why not contribute something yourself instead of criticising from the sidelines?

Regarding photos, I dispute your suggestion that there are raerly any included with the write-up. Last month, there were 4 from the Wolds tulip rally, in June there were 2 from Whitby, in April 3, from the mining museum trip and next month there will be 5 from Harewood. We are conscious of the need for photos and, indeed have asked (in March PP and at Club Nights) for people to send some to us but with no response. We do receive some photos for specific events but these are sometimes of a size, quality and format which is not suitable for the magazine or received after the copy deadline so we have to compromise by omitting them or holding them over until a later edition. In the end we take most of the photos ourselves because at least that way we can control the quality and format issues which might otherwise arise.

Finally, I can't convey in this post how furious your comments about 'more effort required' have made me. How dare you be so arrogant! Sharon and I are volunteers in our role as Regional Organisers. We both work and have lives outside PCGB. We put as much effort as we can into the Region not for our own benefit but for all members in the Region, so to receive a comment that more effort is required from someone who contributes next to nothing to the Region is extremely annoying. We are happy to recieve criticism but please make it constructive.

Andrew W

Thanks for your supportive comments.

Since taking over the role of RO's for Yorkshire, I can only thank Ian and Sharon for all the time, effort and hard work they have put into bringing life into our Regional meetings and events. I'm sure plenty of other people feel the same way.

Don't forget, Ian and Sharon are volunteers and all the things they have done, tried to do and achieved so far are all to build the Region into one of the largest in the club. Needless to say, this will take up a huge proportion of their own time.

Up to date they have done a fantastic job

Thanks + Keep up the good work

ian, other ROs are volunteers and have busy working lives yet they produce much better reports than R7. good idea for participants to contribute. my criticism is confined only to the reports in Porsche Post and not the events or any other aspect of what you do.

I am amazed that anyone can criticise the amount of effort that Ian and Sharon put into our region. Where they find the time I don't know. Having served on committees in the past both at a club level and for professional bodies I know just how hard it is and how hurtful when criticism is unjustly levelled at the effort and hard work involved in what is after all a labour of love in a volunteer capacity.

Personally I think Ian and Sharon have done wonders for the region which is reflected in the ever increasing numbers at club nights and events and can only hope that comments made don't dent their enthusiasm too much.

Thumbs up for Ian & Sharon, they put a lot of effort into the region, and the have managed a growing success for the region; with more events and larger turn out at club nights.

"More effort required" is a shameful response, I believe an appology is required.

Andrew

I respect your opinion and your right to express it, even though as I have already said, I don't agree with it. However, until you or someone else takes over writing the R7 reports (and I don't see anyone rushing forward, despite their very encouraging words of support, which I very much appreciate), you're just going to have to put up with them. I can only do what I can do - if that doesn't meet your expectations, it's just tough.

And by the way,

other ROs are volunteers and have busy working lives

not all Regional Organisers have busy working lives - many are retired.

Been a RO of any club is a thank less task and you cannot keep everyone happy all the time. I am in the same boat as Ian, Sharon & Mark and see what work that they have to do to keep the region running.
The Yorkshire region is much better than it was before. I hope these bad comments stop soon and we find better items to talk about.
Please keep up the good work.

my criticism is confined only to the reports in Porsche Post and not the events or any other aspect of what you do.

Perhaps you ought to pause and be more precise of your criticism before you post.

As an ex RO of Lancashire & Cumbria and also of Dorset & Somerset, (13 years in total) together with 5 years as Regional Director I am also aware of how hurtful thoughtless criticism like this can be. No matter how much effort you put in, there is no way you will please everyone all the time.

A comment like "... more effort needed ...." is just downright nasty and will cause untold hurt to the hard working Ian and Sharon.

I suggest a timely phone call may go some way to your RO may help to repair the damage and hurt you have caused.

Hi Ian and Sharon - you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

Happy motoring - Randolph
