harness and crotch strap

Hi,

Could someone advise me on fitting a 6 point harness, do you have to move the ECU and mount a plate for the crotch straps or is there a way round it? (lhd 993 rs). Aything else I need to know?

Also does anyone make connection that can be easily removed for when the car is not being tracked?

thanks in advance, advice appreciated

Regular RS Recaros tend not to have the hole in the seat base for the strap to come through,,,unless you have cut this out?....The Schroth crotch strap from factory has 2 fittings which hook up with eyelets fixed on the floor, the fasteners on the end of the strap just clip on to these.
When not in use, the crotch strap could just be tucked under the front of the seat,,you could unclip it from the eyelets, but this can be quite fiddly.

I am sure someone will be along with a far better explanation shortly, if you haven't resolved this by tomorrow, I am more than happy to attempt some "under seat" photos when it is daylight.

I ve never been sure if u cut a hole in the seat it damages the integrity of the seat /shell ?...................Nomex ,CS seats have a Kinda oval hole the others dont , exactly as Paul says screw 2 eyes, in 2 pre located screw mounts they re ,there under the seat ................fiddly but clip in and clip out the crotch piece if ur worried by it day to day.

Good point Vic on cutting the seat, looking at the position of the hole it does seem fairly central, I recall from my previous RS without the hole cut, there was at least an outline template where it would be.

Hopefully we have a couple of photos, the first is looking down from the top of the seat with cushion removed showing the hole for the harness to come through.

Second shot is underneath. showing the eyelets positioned either side of the ECU adjacent to the seat runners....

Sorry it is not such a great shot, sort of had to point and shoot under the seat!

If no one has put in crotch strap before, then you will have to drill out the plastic bung in the 2 holes. Once they are removed you just screw in the eyelets that usually come with your crotch strap.

Thanks ever so much, it is truly appreciated. Question, I can leave the ECU where it is? If so then it is simply drill/cut the seat, drill out the bungs and thread in the eyelets and go?

Hopefully you can see the position of my ECU under the seat, it seems fairly central with eyelets positioned either side...may make sense to remove or re position the ECU out of the way while drilling though!

Thanks, yes I can see it. Makes sense. Did you have to drill out your seat? Was that plastic piece of trim around the hole a DIY or it that OE?

I would imagine ''Southbound'' would be able to provide you with that plastic bit of trimming. They should also be able to answer the drilling/seat integrity question.
The seats in my old 964 RSL had exactly the same cut-out...I always presumed this was standard. You learn something new every day! [:)]

The picture is of a 993 CS which comes with a 6 point harness from the factory (no seatbelts though) so the hole was precut. The trim looks like any edge trim you see on many cars,,,,if you went to a scrap yard and cut off a bit of door or boot/hatch seal trim this would do the job, just something to cover the potential sharp/hard edge of the aperture....any car trimmers would have a suitable edging and hidden under the cushion, I doubt anyone would notice if it was slightly different than factory supplied.

Edit to add this link;

This would be ideal for the edging, looks the same as original to me and not too expensive? [;)]

thanks for all the info, much appreciated. All looks good, am going to take a seat out today and have a look to check I have everything I need

ok I have the bungs etc so no issue with the mountings. I am a bit nervous about cutting the seat, there is an oval cut out on the felt so you have a rough guide. Has anyone ever done this? Or should I just fit 4 point harnesses ? advice appreciated

Haven't done it myself but would approach it in this fashion :

Use the cut out on the felt as a guide as you say.....maybe create a cardboard template of the oval and draw round that to give you a guide on the seat.

2 options to cut it :

i). drill it out - lots of small drill holes following oval guide then smooth the aperture with a file.

ii). drill larger hole, put hacksaw blade through hole and cut it out following your guide.

From earlier posts, looks like you already have the seat out which will make it easier and will stop you putting a drill bit through the ECU or something else.

Sure somebody else will come along who really knows what they are doing.

Good luck !
