I'm having to change my Harness Bar because of MSA rule changes effective 1 January 2012. So if anyone is interested in a second-hand Harness bar designed to fit between the 'C' pillar seatbelt anchorages it's up for grabs.

It would suit anyone who wants to go for four-point harnesses without a roll cage.

I just bolts into the seat belt point, if you look closely at the photo you can see I've used a harness eyebolt (Demon Tweeks DB420) because I lost the ones off the rear seat belts...

It's designed to fit over the rear trim panels, so no need for a strip out to use it. :)

I dont wish to appear picky but I have to say something as we need more information before anyone who is not aware buys it as I cant see how it passed any MSA scrutineering.

I personally am not sure if that bar has any additional bracing or fore/aft support. If it hasnt it is not a harness bar but simply a harness guide bar so as to offer the right height and rear slope for harness straps. With two people on that in a heavy frontal it will bend straight away if it is not a heavy gauge properly designed harness bar.

Any harness bar needs to bolt into the seat belt mounts (which are reinforced and tested) or the mounting points will need to have been reinforced with minimum 3mm steel of a minimum area. That seems to be bolted into a seat mount bolt position in my opinion as the rear belt point is higher up on the C pillar so will rip out before it has bent in my view.

If it is a harness bar it should ideally have something to stop the harness straps sliding laterally and it may be that the harnesses are not yet installed in the photo but the wrapping around is not as per any harness manufacturers recommendations.

I have a 968 harness GUIDE bar BNIB and it bolts into the rear C post mounts, not where yours does.

Is it disconnected?

Here`s the Brey Krause bar with strap guides and it is bolted to the seat belt points - not where yours is.

Passed MSA and FIA scruitineering all last year ok. I did use the FIA approved anchorage plates. The Brey Krause wouldn't fit as it fouls the cage. Tried one and had to return it. I put it into the mounts on the 'C' pillar that gave the nearest horizontal route, as recommended in the Blue Book.

BTW I was not offering it for sale, but as a give away...

But I don't want to be responsible for any incorrect usage , so I'll recycle it. [;)]
 
Looks the same set up as my ex Mk1 Golf rally car, that had log book and all papers so dont see why it would fail any scruitineering.

Well I was going to buy it from you!

Can I have 3rd dibs if the other two dont want it?

Read updated MSA regs for 2012. Harness bar updates in there and must be part of a rear/full cage to comply.
 
That's my reading of it, hence the change.

To get passed scruitineering from 1 January 2012.

But prior to that my bar was cleared by Brand Hatch/Donnington/Silverstone/OultonPark/Spa Francorchamps.......................

So probably Ok for time attack or local sprinting/track days.
 
Guys I wouldn't get to worked up about MSA scrutineering, the rules are very basic and they are only checked for a matter of seconds. The fact Cater_Racer's car is a 944 straight away makes it safer than many cars being raced even without the extra safety gear.
