HARNESS RECOMMENDATIONS?

Ok funds certainly now run out completely on the RS so the half cage will have to wait for quite a while - I'll have to make do with the strange 1/4 cage rollover bar that is already there.

This means change of plans for the harness, which I still want.

Having the eyes put into the frame for a 4 point harness now - any recommendations on best harness to use that does not connect to cage but directly to eyelets?

Schroth?

I have Sabelt 4 point fitted in my car, pretty good and make a lot of difference on track. Thought about swapping for 5 point but once I started using them I didn't feel the need when adjusted properly. If I were buying now, I would go for 5 point though.
 
Have six point SABELT existing single fixing on rear firewall sill from factory for three point! Bought mine from Demon Tweeks....

Cup Car belts as above most ideal fitted to cage.....
 
The other thing is that current thinking is that you should go for 3" shoulder & 2" lap belts rather than 3" for both.

This is supposed to be safer?

If not fixing the shoulder belts to a harness, you should be able to use the rear seat belt mounting points with eye bolts. The RS will almost certainly have them despite only being a 2 seater.
 
I am having Schroth 6 point ones fitted in mine at the moment and they come with the option to fix to either the cage (wrap around) or to eyelets via a clip connector.

Have a look on Demon Theives website or Grand Prix Racewear for the full range.

If you want a look at my setup next week or so give me a shout.
 
i have sabelt six point harness installed to the locating points put there by the nice people at the factory via eyelets screwed into the points. To acess the crotch strap holes you have to remove the dme and refit it to the rear seat upright a la cup car placing. All the fixings for this should be already there. A mod plate for fixing the dme is (or was) availiable from Porsche though it's very straight forward to make one yourself.
 
I've been in the market for harnesses too. From what I can see, Schroth is the only manufacturer that makes a 4/5/6 point 75mm/75mm harness that is road legal as well as FIA homologated. That may be relevant if you want to remove the standard 3-point seat belts and still drive on public roads.

It looks like most shoulder straps are open ended, so that they can be attached to bolt-in or snap-in brackets, or wrapped directly around a roll bar. On the other hand, brackets for the lap-belts are stiched-in, so you have to decide whether you want bolt-in or snap-in attachement.
 
Thanks guys - as a couple of you have already said I am having eyelets put in to the points that already exist and intention is to clip harness to new eyelets.

Think looking at 4 point initially as was not aware of process for DME replacement (cheers Laurence) so could do 6 at later date.

Looks like Schroth or Sabelt then...need to look at prices and where from now....

BTW, if someone does the job for you, make sure they know what they are doing. A workshop that I will not name drilled holes in the metallic part of the RS Recaro seat to attach the lap part of the harness! [:'(]
