Harness?

I drove/rode in a car (not a Boxster) fitted with a harness and really liked the added sense of connection. So, has anybody fitted either a 4-point harness to a Boxster with standard seats. Probably roll-bar mounted?

I would imagine a 4 point harness will make a mess of a standard seat - not to mention it's occupant?

On track a harness makes a huge difference, but for everyday use it can be tedious.

Another alternative is the cg-lock which claims to give a normal inertia reel belt 80% of the benefits of a full harness

Check out www.cg-lock.co.uk

The bucket seats (986), the proper "GT3" Recaros, are probably more suited to using the harness and they are fantastic seats though rather pricey.

I wanted to spec them after driving a Boxster fitted with the bucket seats on a "test drive plus" but ~ÂŁ900 for seats + ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ for full leather was just too much [:'(]

I have seen on US forums harnesses fitted to standard or sport seats though, so a search on http://www.ppbb.com/board/986board.htm the likes of might be in order.

Realise the seat might suffer, but don't understand this part. Can you elaborate?

I assumed that a harness went with a proper 'bucket' type seat rather than a normal car seat. You tend to sit in a bucket seat rather than on it. Apparently you can get them for normal seats.

I've used one in different cars, although not a Boxster. When it works, it certainly does help to nail you to the seat and you can get the shoulder strap sufficiently tight to stop too much movement.

The only downside I've seen is that they tend to break or fall apart rather often...

I fitted a harness to the drivers side of my Box for doing track days
You attch the shoulder straps to the roll bar - you have to take the mesh thing out if you ar using them. The lap straps are attched using brackets bought from an American co. I think they advertise in Porsche & 911 world. This means you can use the inerta reels during normal road driving as. I also got a mounting bracket for a fire extinguisher which fits immediately in front of the passenger seat
I'll try and get some piccy's to post

I've got the GT3 seats and the 6 point harnesses in mine. The belts fit around the roll bar - but I have been able to use the mesh rollhoop inserts without any problem. Are you sure your's don't fit?

I am posting some pics. Hopefully as you will see the straps can fit with the mesh guard when not in use however when I use them they spread out and foul the lugs on the bottom of the mesh things.
Hopefully the picture will come through OK
