Has anyone fitted 19" alloys?

Hi All!

I'm thinking about upgrading from 18" Turbo alloys to a set of 997 19s (I have a 2004 996 Turbo). I looked all over Silverstone this weekend and couldn't see any other 996s on 19s, so I'm wondering if there's a reason for this (i.e. they won't fit!). Has anyone tried it? If so, what size tyres did you go for?

Cheers,

Neil.

Well I guess no one has! I'm taking the plunge...

My current car has: Front 18x8J ET50s and Rear 18x11J ET45s.
I'm upgrading to: Front 19x8J ET57s and Rear 19x11J ET67s with 15mm spacers and longer bolts.

I'll let you know how it goes...

Sorry, beaten ya to it!! I have 19's on mine... no major issues except if driving hard into a dip i get a slight rub on the rears...
They fill that gap soooo much better though...

I found a thread on Pistonheads which gives some spacer sizes:

Thanks Richard. After some searching, I managed to find a set of alloys that are ET51 on the rear (the same size as the Pistonheads guy) and I've bought 7mm spacers. Brings me out at ET44 when standard is ET45, so not a bad match, and I'm hoping the extra 7mm should fill the arches out better without looking too Boy Racer! We'll see... Spacers have arrived already, but still waiting for the wheels.

Got all the parts and fitted everything. Looked great, but the rear passenger side was rubbing against the inner wheel arch liner. The liner had warped, so had to be replaced. With a new liner in, the rear passenger side was fine.

Unfortunately on driving the car, I discovered rubbing noises coming from the front drivers side whilst turning left. On inspection (obviously stationary) all seems OK, but when moving the rubbing occurs.

Had the alignment checked. No difference, so have ordered 5mm spacers for the front to see if the extra clearance helps.

So far this has not been a cheap or easy experience:

Wheels £950
Tyres £1050
7mm Spacers £50
5mm Spacers £30
Long bolts £20
Alignment £70
Arch liner £150

Total a whopping £2320 and I still can't drive it yet! Hopefully all will be fine once the front spacers are on later this week. Fingers crossed!

They do look good though! Here's a before photo...

Well adding 5mm spacers to the front actually made the problem worse! Removed those. Fitted extra screws to pull the wheel arch liner closer to the radiators, which has given a couple of mm extra clearance. Rubbing noise now completely gone from the front passenger side, but I still get it when turning left at speed from the front drivers side. Not much more I can do now, so I'll just have to live with it!
