Has anyone had an oil leak here?

I noticed this when I took the bumper off ... (its a view looking inside the O/S rear wheel arch)

Do I pretend I saw nothing or do I fix it? Is it an easy fix? (Seems wise to do it while the bumper is off)

I also saw this (sorry for a poorer picture still!):

I can't work out where the oil is coming from here - as this is just the fixing for a bumper bracket. On the engine bay side it looks dry[:-]

The top picture is the clue, its the back of the oil filter housing, the oil could have leaked down when the filter was changed.I would clean it all of and run the car.

I'd agree with Chris. It's quite common to spring a leak there however it's normally from one of the unions. Both of those look dry in your pic so a sloppy oil filter change is probably the cause of that old stain.

It could be the seal on the filter it could be nipped or the filter needs tightening up, As Steve said its normally from the unions

Thanks for advice - will clean up and check for anything new over coming months. Gave a good go at turning the oil filter with just my hands (avoiding temptation to use a chain wrench) and it wouldn't budge. I'll just hope it came off the last oil change.

The main problems was the join between a rubber and metal pipe which is at right angles just behind the rear off-side wheel. Bit of a clean, bit of a wiggle and no more oil burning on the silencer! Hooray.
