Has James_G sold up?

This one sounds very like James_G's machine ... have you sold up James?

If so, what are you moving on to? Not going over to the dark (boosted) side? (Please don't tell me it's a Porsche that's not a 944!)

Ah, ha I see I have been rumbled! Actually the car is still with me and I wasn't going to announce anything until the chap had driven off into the sunset, as I'm sure we've all been let down at the last minute before. Also I was thinking that I might try to make the last outing in it to be the garage day, but alas he collects tomorrow - I hope I'm still invited now?!?

But yes, it's true, I have sold up and I must admit I sort of only did it a bit half heartedly, hence the photos taken in the office car park. Consider my surprise then when less than 24 hours after the ad was placed, a deal had been done. As a result I never got the chance to offer it up for sale here, which is a shame, but then these days everyone is looking for Turbos, non? Sold to nice chap actually, who's downgrading from a Maserati 4200GT (!) to fund a house purchase but still wants something interesting to drive. I've encouraged him to join the club too.

Anyway, some recent good news means that although I am about to lose the garage where the S2 is stored, I am getting a bit of extra ££ so I thought it was a good time to sell both cars and use the incoming funds to upgrade to something newer. Plus I have achieved that which I set out to do and having done that it made having a second car for just weekends a little extravagant. And then there was the issue with the heater matrix, but the less said about that the better....!

As for what I am replacing it with, unfortunately not a 944, nor a 968, but a 996.

Although a little bit of me hankers after a mint condition 1988 Lux! On D90s [;)]

All sounds good. But I'll be almost as sorry as you are to see it go. You seemed very at home with the 944, and I bet you'll miss her.

Ahhh. Ummmm .... >TreadsCarefully< ... they're a bit different from a 944. I presume you've driven one? I haven't, but I did have a Boxster on loan when I stuffed my S2 a couple of years ago and while I appreciate that the Boxster is different to both the 944 and the 996, it left me totally cold.

(Sorry for having rumbled you as well! Out of interest, how much did you get for her? Tell me to push off if you don't want to tell me.)

You'll love the 996 trust me I have both, very different drives and very rewarding in their own ways. Must admit I've been tempted to sell my S2 recently more due to lack of space than anything else. I've spent a few bob on it since acquiring it last year and as a result is running and looking much better

George, sorry to hear it mate but I think you'll be pleased with a 996. I think they are a very much underrated car and are labelled with alsorts of negativity, but people forget it was a significant step up from a 993 in terms of performance and handling. At the end of the day it is a Porsche and there are not very many bad Porsches (are there any?)

Apparently a 912 Sportmatic was a bit rubbish, but no doubt I'll get put back in my place by an enthusiastic owner soon enough.

Anyway car has now gone to the new owner who tells me he's already joined the forum so hopefully he'll be along shortly to introduce himself.

Meanwhile, here's a nice parting shot of the old girl after 20 months and 10,000 enjoyable miles

I'm going to stick around though, and enjoy the banter [;)]

Thanks James, yep I'm the chap who has bought James_G's well looked after 944 S2, and very pleased I am with it too! Even though I've only had it for a little over 12 hours I think I've got the bug already as this morning I've already been looking at things to buy for it. I'm thinking probably starting off with a few simple items like a couple of new switch gear to tidy-up and some overmats (any recommendations btw)?

I've actually been keeping half an eye open for a decent 944 S2 for quite some time, although I convinced myself I shouldn't really buy one until I've sold my car. Unfortunately then I saw this advert... [;)]

Talking of which, my Maserati 4200 Cambiocorsa will shortly be appearing on Pistonheads at a very reasonable price (£14K), while I doubt anyone here would be that interested, if you know anyone who would be send them my way!

Cheers, Ade

Ade,

Hi. Welcome. That's a nice S2 you bought from James. Good choice, I hope you are very happy with it.

As a suggestion, we have had a few new people tripping across this way, and you will probably not be noticed in this thread. If you start a thread along the lines of "I'm new and have a nice black S2", all of your own, lots of people will come up and say "Hi".

(Thanks for offering your Maserati. I only wish I could afford it!)
