Hatch Lock Rubbers

I seem to remember people saying that the 968 part could be trimmed and was a better seal and was about £11 from OPC. Just called them and the 944 part and the 968 part are both £35 inc vat albeit different part numbers []

Can anyone enlighten me with a part number or verify if the £11 968 part is a myth or not??

Cheers

All valid points chaps thanks! I will have a play about with mine tonight see if I can get it to seal, the rubber still looks perfectly intact but it does raise slightly off the metal plate. I will chuck water in it tonight and see if that is the issue before I go buying the worlds dearest 2 inch square bit of foamy rubbery sealy nonsense!

Cheers

Im having the same problem with the o/s seal!

My 944 come with 2 replacement seals and the new one spilt when i was trying to force it into the recess. A very very expensive piece of rubber!!!!!!!! [:(]

need to order another but will have to consult the bank to see if i can get a 2nd mortgage!!!

I feel your pain. My seal is intact but does seem to lift a bit rather than sit flush on the metal plate. I am going to have a go with some silicon tonight and see if it will seal that way. I don't think I'll remove and refit the seal incase it tears or splits although they were new 3 years ago. I also remember at that time a lot of new ones from Porsche were coming and were split before even out the packet! Maybe the price hike is becasue the part has been redesigned? Not sure.

I will feed back on how the siliconing goes!

Stuart are you talking about the circular seal that goes around the keyhole, or the two oblong seals that the hatch pins penetrate when closing the hatch?

Hi Stuart

My thread may help? - http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=738501&mpage=1&key=leak&#744321

My seals looked in excellent condition but still leaked. I replaced with new and it cured the problem

Probably not. They do update parts to newer versions sometimes, hence the newer DME relays not having a 944 part number, but it's usually Porsche's stocking system to blame.

Spares are held at a price until they run out, then a new price is set based on the new run. Because this might be a lot smaller production, or just because years have gone by without an increase, they do often have a massive hike overnight.

Look at it positively: all those 944 parts we get before a new stock and price increase are a real bargain. [&:]

Well the good news is my hatch lock rubbers do not leak! The bad news is I can't trace the leak. It is very minor just now but only likely to get worse if left unidentified!

Ahhhh those ones. Yea I replaced them to can't remember cost. But I cut the little lugs off makes for a easier fix
