Hatch Problem

Hi everyone, I hope you're all well.

After a summer of messing about with suspension and steering issues, I'm now trying to solve a problem with the hatch. It only opens intermittently. I have checked the tecnical articles and theybdont quite describe my issue.

GND from the motor is all good. I've also replaced the motor with a spare: same problems.

Basically, it works from both switches intermittently. Sometimes boot and footwell switch work and the motor turns no problems, sometimes nothing (no motor turning). The interesting thing I've noticed is that sometimes it works when the ignition is on vs off i.e. it isn't working and then I switch the ignition to position I and it works.

I've looked over the wiring diagram, and the only GND I can see is from the motor, which shows 0 resistance and is a nice clean contact. I'm thinking, are the two switches linked at all? Could it be a common fault on one or the other switch? Am I missing a GND on one of the switches maybe? Could they both just be faulty switches?

Any help is appreciated as always.

Haha! Thanks for the link.

Mechanically it's all fine.....when the motor turns. My problem is that it doesn't always turn!

I'm pretty sure the motor is all good (I'm told they're very reliable and I've swapped it for a spare I had), so it must be a GND problem (think I've eliminated this unless either of the switches have a GND) or a switch problem. Odd that they either both work or both don't work though. You'd have thought that if it's a switch problem, one would work but whatever the intermittent issue is, the two switches act the same.

I had very similar problems about a year ago except that the front switch always worked but the rear one was intermittent. I went through the same process you have with another motor, checking wiring and earth. In the end I decided the only thing left was the wiring connector by the motor. I cut that out and connected the wires individually and have had no problems since.
