Hatch stuck shut

A call for help to the 944 massive here. I got my hatch pins adjusted the other week which cured an annoying rattle from the rear that had been plaguing me for a while. Its been working fine but last night the darn thing refused to open. I can hear the mechanism whirring away when using either the internal release or the key, but the hatch wont budge.

I don't want to use brute force and ignorance to try and shift it, but is there a possible solution I could try without having to take it anywhere to be sorted ?

I think you need to get into the boot and have a look. It's quite easy to manually work the latches once you're inside - it probably just needs a fraction more movement of the locking mechanism than the mechanism can manage.

We had a similar issue on the white car, but thankfully there was someone on hand who was rather more flexible than me to get past the cage to get into the boot :ROFLMAO:
 
As Peter says, put the back seats down, worm in, pull the carpet away from the area at the lock.
I had the cable snap here - and for some reason my key never worked the hatch lock [8|]
You can lever the lock mechanism so that it opens - you'll see how.
 
I had the cam lobe on the hatch motor snap which sounds similar to the symptoms you describe - whirring noise but hatch remains tightly closed...of course. It will be obvious when you're in there.

I had a similar issue after adjusting my pins. After 2 weeks the hatch was jammed closed. As suggested in above posts I crawled through into the boot and released the latches which are held on with 2 x 10 mm bolts. Turns out that I had adjusted the pins too tight and the grease had been scraped off with use, after reassembly this together with a little bit of slack in the cables ment the pins were not letting the catches release from the pins, I discovered This by pushing down on the spoiler above the pins to remove some of the pressure caused by the rubber seals whilst unlocking with the key. Easy remedy was to slacken the pins by 1 1/2 turns, regrease the pins and latches and adjust the slack out of the cables and "jobs a good un".

you might be lucky to open it from outside if you get someone to hold the release button down in the car whilst you tug gently on the hatch . Try pressing down on each side of the hatch first then pulling up and also try shaking the hatch sideways whilst lifting .

I'm too big to crawl through so I had to get the missus to do it. Larf i nearly killed myself [:D]
 
And the prize goes to Wolfie308 ! [:D] I clambered in there today and sure enough the cam lobe (I assume that what it is) has sheared right off - It looks a small and simple part so hopefully a replacement will have a small and simple price !

Unfortunately not I think a genuine replacement is around £30-40.

When mine broke I made up a replacement with some flat bar and a few small bolts until I found a replacement motor with the cam in place so I bought the motor for £15 and got the cam for free, even sold the motor for £10 on eBay so overall cost £5.

Just checked my service file, and blimey.....it's 6 years since I replaced mine - I think the first job I did on the car.

Part no. is 944.624.814.00 Lever £6.60 + VAT

You will of course also have to identify what was putting the strain on the part to snap it - maybe the cable has become kinked due to stiff hatch locks? I found after stripping and cleaning the locks, the whole mechanism worked freely.

When I enquired a couple of years ago the price had gone up to over £60!! I queried it at a couple of OPCs and they confirmed the price. I, too, ended up buying one from eBay (for about £10). Hopefully Porsche will have revised their ridiculous price but they justified it on the small number of items produced against the cost ot tooling and production.

Just checked with OPC Exeter and the actual price now is.......£41.41 + VAT [:(]

Apparently it did go up to nearer £80 but has "come down significantly" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

And yes it was truely £6.60 + VAT in 2004!
 
hiya jon,i hope your well, same problem for me earlier in the year and cable had snapped,ordered one from alisdair [sulzerek] had it fitted, no probs since, regards jason p
 
Yep have agree... this happened with my '88 924S....but I just used a well positioned cable tie, and also just had a text from its current owner to say "what time do you call this, but yeah its still holding lol" [;)]
