Have I bent my car???

An odd thing has happened today. I have just done an oil change on the car, went to take it for a spin round the block and the accelerator sticks flat to the floor! So did the normal of checking the cable and it seems to be the pedal. If the pedal is disconnected from the linkage it works fine, so some how the linkage is jamming on the pedal. But I can't understand how. The only thing I can come up with is the floor of the car moved when I jacked the car up. But don't understand how as it was jacked on the proper mount and is the same place as I always jack it. Anyone any ideas what is going on?
 
Thats why then..
Youve bent the jacking point + the floor.. So it now jams the throttle pedal....Aparently its a common problem, if you dont know .....

NEVER jack the car up from this piont... ONLY ever use the central cill jack point....

Sounds like its "hammer" time on the floor to bend thew floor pan back down....[8|][8|][8|]
 
Daves right, get a heavy lump hammer and some thick carpet to spread the load and just thwack the floor at the base of the accelerator pedal.

Behind the front weel arch is not a jack point to take all the weight of the car but is one of four support points for a 4 point lift to spread the weight.

The jacking point is half way along the sill and there is a diamond shape marked in the 'bobbly' paint to indicate it
 
Well thats a bit s***. Not all the weight of the car was on it. Only one wheel just off the ground. [X(]. Any one want to buy a bent Lux I am sick of the sight of it.
 
Ahh, come on, don't be like that.

Just imagine if you'd got some euro box on your drive instead of your bent lux! I know which I'd prefer.

That said, I have a love / love not so much relationship with mine. Great when there are no niggles or strange noises and a bit disappointing when it sounds like I'm driving a combine harvester. I still wouldn't want to swap though.

I always jack mine from the centre of the sill as the cup of my jack fits nicely over the jacking point and have always been impressed how effective that process is.

Don't want to rub salt in .... but that area of the floor where the small circular pressing is attached is one of the first places to look for rust. It starts where the lower wing fixing attaches to the floor and creeps about under the PVC underseal, weakening the area. I'll try and post a photo in the next day or so of the 'lacey' bit I have recently cut out.
 
Thats one thing I can be happy about, I have no rust on the cills or wings or fake jacking points. The car is about 99.9% rust free one of the main ressons I bought it after looking at so many S2's and turbos that i could of looked through. lol. Why dont lux's rust as bad? Any way I had a look at the owners manal and behind the front wing is a proper jacking point not just for 4 posts. So I guess mine has just gone soft with old age. lol. I am looking forward to hitting it with a big hammer. [:D]
 
The manual I have for the 944 says that the only jacking points are the central ones under the cills. The front and rear (just in front of the wheel arch) points are for use with hoisting beams only, although logically you would expect the load at that point to be the same (approx 1/4 the wieght of the car with 50/50 front/rear weight distribution), however it may be down to the way in which the lifting beams locate in the mount which avoids the problem of floor distortion. Jacking at this point may induce a point load on the point and thus cause the distortion whereas a more evenly spread load would not. The big hammer technique would seem to fit the bill here provided that a bit of care is taken, it probably won't take much. Just a note though, I had 4 new tyres yesterday and I took all the wheels off, put the car on stands and took the wheels to be fitted to try and avoid this sort of problem caused by inauspicious use of trolley jacks by tyre fitters. I have done this since I had a cill damaged once by someone putting a jack under it! It's a bit of a pain, but with a car like the 944 the pice of mind is worth the effort.
 
Thats odd my drivers manual that came with the car on page 89 says the point in the middle is for lifting with the vehicle car jack. The points at the front and back or for a lifting platform or trolley jack. I used my trolley jack as the I normaly do as the car jack has never been used.
Anyway its all fixed now, the floor had moved by about 2-3mm thats all.
 
I am seriously thinking of getting a set of these as its such a pain to jack the car up (I think so anyway) I spend money at garages when I`m pretty competent at spannering and bodywork.

If I cannot afford them (fitting out the bl**dy house extension is sucking me dry...oooohhh missus) then I just might employ the same principle by providing a bolted/hinge fixture on the garage end wall and cutting and shutting a couple of steel channels that hook on as a ramp and investing in another jack so as to lift the ends. How easy is that [8D]
