Have you ever?

I have heard of people putting the 3ltr engine in a lux, but has any one on here ever put a turbo engine in a n/a car, if they have how hard is it and what changes (engine only) bigger rad i guess? intercooler obviously? also i hear 2.5 16valvers have turbo gear boxes, so is it possible, not that i would do it, but im just interested?

I think that the wiring is very different amongst many other components for a start so the work required is not cost effective at all.
 
Engine wiring loom in my S2 is separate from the cars wiring loom, is it any different on a turbo? I would have thought that as long as you get the complete engine with its loom, ecu, all manifolds, IC etc. then to fit a turbo motor in say an S2 should be pretty straight forward, especially if using the turbo gearbox and torque tube. Is there much if any difference between an S2 and turbo torque tube?
 
Intercooler fitment would not be easy as the badge panel is welded on the early cars where on the later cars it is screw on/off also I'm not sure how the space below would compare?

It's not the answer you would want to hear but I do really think in this case buying a turbo would be your better option.

Precisely. Never build a car you can buy.

(But putting a turbo lump into something like an early, light, slim 924 would be a great project ... )

There's no practical point to doing this, it's going to cost you silly money unless you're doing all the work yourself, and even then it's easier to just buy a turbo with everything working perfectly well.
 
I would Sell the lux, (although a nice car) save the headache , work & time & buy a 44s2 for your budget..You will not regret it.
 
i probably will trade up one day just not yet, it seems a shame to keep a car that cost alot to keep going, when if you saved up that money the upgrade would be round the corner, but the fund always get munched by repairs.
 
I'm sorry to hear that. I've never had a 944 that's cost me money to keep except for self inflicted things like tuning.
 
unfortunately i seem to be fixing things on mine constantly lately, first year of ownership was fine but this one has just been agg!
 
You get that sometimes, biggest bill on my S2 was £4.5K but I knew I had some big jobs I kept putting off. Likewise my 968 is looking at a bill for the thick end of £2K and I already spent £3K on it last year. The one thing I am very confident of though is looking across both cars there is a pretty clear pattern of when things tend to wear out, once they are replaced they are good again for as many years again.

Personally I would consider an engine swap if you have the time and tools to do it and you don't mind having a frankencar. Paying someone else of course never makes sense and there is bound to be a few issues, as we found with my race cars body shell which was from a 2.7 not an S2, loads of small differences but none of them insurmountable or even that bad in the end.
