Haven't 'Exhausted' this topic yet...(sorry!)

Well I'm poring over exhaust systems at the moment as I need to replace the complete and original(!) 16 year old mild steel system on my C2 - it doesn't owe the previous owners much! (me, not so lucky....)

Looking at the average price of complete systems, I am scratching my head as to why this system EuroCupGT 996 C2/4 High Flow System ( incl manifolds, cats, silencers and Tailpipes) is an unbelievably reasonable £1,644.49 at Porsche Shop.

Has anyone got experience of this type of setup and what can I expect? I'm guessing deafness is possible, but allegedly I can buy the set minus the silencers and then marry up some Dansk or Miltek silencers.

Any guidance appreciated as always.

J

Ive bought the silencers as the Catalytic and Manifold 'aint broke'

Porsche shop did me a special price as Porsche Club Member. Sounds great. In fact coming down the Elan Valley on Sunday it sounded like a Merlin echoing of the Dam sides.

Would recommend the whole lot as Porsche Shop will fit it for free

You will not be disappointed

A few more options here: http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt63_620_-cma81-cmo110-ct346/Porsche/996--911--1997-05/996-C4-3-4L-1997-08-01/Exhaust-Package/

Does anyone have any experience of the Designtek silencers offered by Design911?
I am looking to replace my silencers only as they are starting to split and mot is soon.
I fancy sports boxes but also want to keep below 105db for Trackdays.

Thanks
Alan.

I've bought the Designtek Silencers from Design911. There's a long lead time (due end of this month), but once fitted I'll let you know. As long as it doesn't take power away, and make the car sound like a Micra I'll be happy! No offence to Micra owners intended.

In all honesty I cant see why split seems will fail.

I've not seen any that are bad enough to cause a major leak of gases or make noise levels excessive.

And thats all they can fail you on.

Emissions, noise, or leak.

I haven't bought the silencers, but I've bought DesignTek cat bypass pipes and Cup pipes (from Design 911) for both of my 964s, and those were really well made and fitted well.

Well they've finally arrived. A dent on the reverse of each silencer, which I think is down to poor packaging. But your're not going to see them!!

But they look good, and they even came with a polishing cloth!! Just need to find the time to fit them.

My silencers are splitting at seam directly behind wheels, and are blowing badly.
I ordered a pair of silencers including new tailpipes that were listed on eBay for £499. I looked up the companies website to check them out and ended up buying them direct. For £400 delivered.

They arrived last Thursday,
I'll report back when they have been fitted.

Alan.

Come on guys,

Its three nuts on the hangers each side and one clamp, then just swap the tail pipes over.

Whats taking so long? Weathers only going to get worse you know.

Ninemeister in Warrington have just fitted a Kline 200 cell complete system to my Porsche 996 turbo, and I'm very impressed and not too loud. I believe Kline do a system for a 996 carrera so might be worth a look. My system cost me about £2k.

Finally replaced the silencers with Dansk Sports exhaust. I know it's only three bolts to get them off and then swap the mounts over. But my car has been used in the UK as a daily driver, which means the bolts go rusty. So one stud snapped, and the M8 x 140mm bolt snapped. Soon fixed and replaced.

And the result....

Bloody fantastic!! Sounds brilliant without being headache inducing. And at a steady 80mph, no noise inside the cabin, which means long journeys will be spot on. I must stop driving with window down when leaving the village though!

The one thing that has really surprised me, is how much quicker the car feels. I can only assume the old silencers were so bad they restricted flow and thus reduced power.

Your post is well timed as I am in the market for new silencers as mine are shot at the seam.

Which Dansk did you go for? I believe they offer a 'Race' version which is loud, but the sport version is similar in volume to PSE - which is probably what I'll be getting.

Interesting that you feel the car is quicker, is it possible that it is the aural sensation tricking your mind into feeling faster? Out of interest where did you purchase from?

I bought my exhausts from design 911. Exhaust Muffler / Silencer Sports DesignTek for Porsche 996 Carrera - which is the Dansk Exhaust. The price was right, quality looks good, and after fitting sounds just right. It's got a proper 911 growl now, but isn't about to ruin my hearing after an hours drive. But it is probably closer to the standard exhaust volume and sound than most would be happy about, but it was exactly what I was after.
.
The car does feel more responsive, but I guess that could be psychosomatic.
