Having issues with getting new front suspension

Hey guys

I'm doing my first suspension change, and I'm having a pig of a time trying to sort out the front suspension.

I'm installing bilstein B6 series, the rear where no problem. However I need to get the outer strut bodies to insert the shocks into and I can seem to find any where that sell them, is their any way I can modify my original Sach shock to take the bilstein?

Btw my babies a 1986 v2 oval dash base 2.5 8v edition.

Its also currently getting original A/C fitted and power steering.

Any Ideas would be a great help.

I would have thought that all '86 struts featured threaded inserts so would work straight away with the B6 inserts, but it sounds like it's not your case?

Looked on Pelican Parts web site and they list the following for front struts (have Koni also and then full range of whole assemblies)
Bilstein Gas Shock Absorber Insert, for F&S Strut only, Front (2 per car, sold individually) 924, 924S, 924 Turbo (1987-88), 944 (1983-86) - F&S would be Fitchel & Sachs?
Bilstein Strut, Right Front, Sport Valving 380/150 Threaded Body, 944 Turbo
Bilstein Strut, Left Front, Sport Valving 380/150 Threaded Body, 944 Turbo (1986-89)
Front Gas Boge/Sachs Shock Insert, for F&S Strut only (2 per car, sold individually) 944 (1983-86), 924S (1987-88)

Sounds like your '86 is a late one with the "one piece" strut assemblies? My S2 has one piece F&S struts so cutting them open and installing Koni inserts is the only option other than replacing the whole strut. I did read somewhere about Bilstein sport struts but I thought those were turbo options.

Pelican has Bilstein strut assemblies but they are for 86-89 Turbos.
