Having trouble with battery

Been having probs with battery going flat. Bought new battery as the car was laid up and only covered 500 miles in a year before i bought it. Car now starts off new battery but when the ignition is put on there is no battery light lit up. Does this mean alternator or regulator is gone. Looking through the history that came with the car it has had a replacement some years ago but not many miles ago any ideas?

maybe the bulbs blown.

i always put my cars on trickle charge if there not going to be used for a while or disconect thebattery completly.

Veg - any other symptoms noted? Have you run the car for a period with this battery or have you just installed?

If the car has run for a period and no other problems, then a blown bulb might be likely.

bulb does flicker when car is started so bulb isn't blown. Im sure i have read somewhere that its supposed to come on when ignition is turned on then go out when started. But its supposed to mean something when it doesnt come on when ignition is turned on.

The purpose of the bulb is too indicate that the battery is not charging, that is all.

So, if the light is not on but you know that the light does indeed work then that is a good thing IMO.

Ok alternator is kaput. Have found one in german and swedish parts for£160 its a 90 amp does that sound any good

Well had a bit of good news. The place I took the alternator to rang me, to say it was just the regulator that had gone. They thought the alternator itself was kaput but this was down to their test machine playing up. Total cost £40+vat. Am now looking at fitting an LED that lights up if voltage goes over 15V. Got the idea from here:- http://tech.rennlist.com/911/pdf/VoltageMonitor.PDF

Well fitted the alternatoer after having the regulatorr checked and replaced. What a difference the car runs better as well. Took it out for a good run last night. Sun was out targa roof off. Music blasting what more could I ask for?
