Haynes manual

Can anyone recommend which Haynes manual to go for? They list a UK one which goes up to 1985 inc. 3.2 and a US version which goes up to 1989. I wonder if anyone can tell me from experience which would be the most relevant for my 1988 3.2 please? I realise the US one would have differences in Injection/emission and safety items but would obviously cover the G50 box as well.
Comments appreciated.

I purchased the UK version...waste of time & money, best save up for a Bentley's manual, it's the dog's boll**cks

I bought the Haynes when I bought my '89, and was a little bit disappointed. Lots of interesting and useful information in there but I felt it kinda 'ran out of steam' when it got to the later models.

Invest in the Bentley's Manual - 1984>1989
Best manual on the market and covers 915 + G 50 units

Sounds like a road test is needed.

1. Locate a shelf carrying the Haynes manual
2. Grasp the spine of the Haynes manual and withdraw gently to release the manual from the shelf.
3. Review the manual by opening the outer leaves to reveal the inner content

Then ....

Wait for it.....

OK here we go .... !

4. Refitting the manual to the shelf is the reverse of removal [:D][:D]

Edit point 4 with....Relocate manual to handy waste bin, don't even consider with recycling![:)]

IMHO the Haynes manual is rather hopeless. Worth buying for a general read but lacking in sufficient 3.2 Carrera specific detail to be of much practical value.

I have the Bentley manual which although very useful and in a different league to the Haynes effort is still lacking in some areas. For example can somebody tell me where in the Bentley manual it shows the layout/route of fuel pipes/feed between the front of the car and its arrival in the engine compartment? (Hope I'm missing something)

It is probably very obvious if I bother to have a look at the car but it would be nice to know from the manual beforehand.

I've previously managed to copy pages from Porsche workshop manuals (grovelling to my local OPC centre) and these are of course excellent if you can get hold of the right page(s)!

Just buy both, they are inexpensive. All the pics and specs about the cars will help you. The other books are expensive.

Thanks for all the replies chaps - I actually bought a Bentley's from Motorbooks last week. Good pictures and layout but even so lacking in some areas. Very poor on windscreen washers for instance and some aspects of heating/ventilation. Can anybody tell me what the second big bottle in the nearside front wheelarch is for. One is obviously connected to the filler neck adjacent to the fuel filler but I can't quite see what the other bottle is for.
I hadn't realised prior that the Bentley's is published in USA by the way!

Cheers,

Peter

Sounds like the Bentley Manual isn't that much better than the Haynes in some respects then!

The 'other washer bottle' is for the Intensive Wash System Fluid. Do you not have a Handbook for the car? [:)]

It's the main washer bottle. The one in the luggage bay is just for the intensive screen wash system wired up to the switch on the dash.

Steve

mmmmmmmmm! Did I mis-read that then. I didn't think so. Although the statement wasn't all that clear!

Unless I'm very much mistaken the second big bottle located under the front wing (and on top of the main windscreen washer reservoir) is an expansion tank for the fuel vapour.

Think I'd better butt in now before you lot start fighting! Thanks Tripe - it must be a fuel expansion tank - I haven't got around to tracing the various pipes among the muck under the wing. I do have a handbook for the car thanks Richard.........unfortunately my intensive wash doesn't work - I suspect the motor as the switch tests OK so will have to investigate further I think.

Cheers
