Before I try to remove the head can those that have done this before advise if it can be done without backing out the manifold studs or even leaving the manifold on, Clarks is a bit might work might not, I don't fancy breaking the studs [:'(] Thanks.

I removed the studs using 2 nuts and they came out easy. I'm not sure if you could get the head out without doing this but it would certainly make it more awkward in my opinion.

I have taken mine off without removing them - makes it a little more difficult but the manifolds will just move enough.

You may find some of them come out with the nuts though.

No problems with the exhaust studs but I have had problems with the screws that hold the cam tower to the head, particularly if the cam tower has been off before (as mine had). These can be easily rounded so take extra care with the ones inside the tower as drilling them out would be a pig.

I seem to recall I left the studs in place, but also slackened off the offside engine mount bolts and just lifted the engine a little on that side to give just enough room to get the manifold off. That was on an S2... not sure if that makes a difference...

I removed the manifolds but left the studs on. But mine is an S2 so it's probably a wee bit different to yours.

Had no trouble with the cam carrier but made sure I tapped the hex key well into the bolts before removing them, with care no problem. As for the exhaust manifold studs they backed out no problem not needing to remove them all I left in 1,2& 6 . Head off next [:)]

Best place price and quality to buy head set please, I also need a set of belts and rollers, pushing my luck here for a good deal [:D]
